By turns touching and exasperating, The Baby Borrowers seems at first to be the ultimate parental revenge fantasy -- we'll show those know-it-all-teens what it means to be adult. But it winds up surprisingly nuanced.

Would I watch this show if I weren't assigned to it? No. But I would have missed something that is well done and interesting.

Perhaps foremost, the series does a creditable job of establishing the safeguards that are in place, which makes the whole "What idiot would hand their baby over to strangers for NBC's benefit?" question more palatable.

This six-part series, which begins on Wednesday, has the cleverest conceit of any reality show in a long time and almost feels necessary.

For me, The Baby Borrowers serves primarily as a meta-cautionary tale about the strange decisions of those who involve themselves in reality TV.

Well, it's really hard work, and babies burp and cry and you don't sleep much, and ... Yes, this is life, and yes, as subject matter for television, this is also boring.

The value of Borrowers, beyond its gossipy entertainment value, plummets--and yet never quite reaches zero.

Even if societal improvement were the goal, and it's not, Baby wouldn't do much to achieve it.

Terry G. gave it an8:
This show is perfect for Oregonians! Although I know 3 teens that have already given birth, this may alleviate teens from doing it without proper birth control and when they're ready mentally to have children. If I haven't done so already, at least my 10 year old daughter knows better than to have sex before she's a responsible adult.
Sean E. gave it a2:
Not the worst "reality" tv has given us, but pretty close.
Tony M gave it a7:
This show was decent. I think it made them really think about having kids.
