The show remains entertaining... despite the dated nature of the clothes and slang used at times; I enjoyed seeing these again, and my son immediately loved them.

The video effects, cheap sets, and awful '70s clothing have aged poorly, but like Sesame Street, Electric Company still stands out for its idealistic innocence and its sheer inventiveness.

Ultimately, The Best of The Electric Company is a perfect companion piece to the... Muppet Show: Season One box, both because of its substantial content and ageless appeal.

At a time when too many kids shows -- including a few of today's PBS offerings -- suffer from jump-cut editing, soupy scripts and brainless plots, the Emmy award-winning "Electric Company" stands out like the smart, funky kid in a sea of drones wearing mall-store duds.

Sound educational and entertainment principles are clearly at its center, which makes it still worth watching today.

I watched the DVDs (first couple) and thought they were hilarious. I'm in my 30s. Note to the reviewer who said "slut" is mentioned in the outtakes on this site (and I believe Amazon). That is NOT correct. If you are talking about the scene where the maid dumps the tray of food, she calls her a "clot" (ie, lazy). If you listen again and agree, please fix your reviews.

Better now perhaps than when I was growing up. But realltydidn't like it then, can just bear to watch it through the cringes in my 30's Proof of the pudding is that I cringed at this when I was 5.

Sean B, chill. Sure, the things you mentioned are off-color and are definitely adult humor but how likely is it that a 3- and 5-year-old know what Tampax or a slut are?
Sean B gave it an8:
Parents BEWARE... On disc #1 there is an outakes section. Pretty funny, but not for kids. Bill Cosby jokes about Tampax, a female cast member laughs so hard she 'pees herself' and Rita Moreno calls another woman a 'slut.' Not what I was expecting from a GREAT kids show while watching the DVDs with my 3 and 5 year old daughters.

I'm not rating the DVD, but the show overall. As a child, I found "The Electric Company" to be utter crap -- a poor relation to "Sesame Street." Am I the only one who does not remember this show fondly? Come to think of it "Zoom" was horrid, as well. I s'pose I was already a cynic at 9 years ...
