Great, riveting stuff.

Whatever your convictions, you have to respect the decision facing these young men. [14 Apr 2006, p.78]

Whether you share the beliefs of these four heartfelt guys, or don't, "God/Girl" delivers a mesmerizing portrait of sincere souls in quest of their true selves.

The show is respectful, decent and moving. [17 Apr 2006, p.43]

That this type of spiritual dilemma still plays out in an age of cynicism is inspiring to follow, even if too many of the usual reality show trappings (intrusive music, manipulative narratives) detract from the central theme.

But are the guys affecting faith and confusion to be better TV characters? No, I don't think so. Each of them speaks clearly and soberly about his love of God, and there is no showboating for the camera.

A reasonably straight documentary (albeit with a degree of manipulation).

By the end of the second hour, the series has deteriorated into tiresome back and forth among the men and their family members and friends.

It's a potentially interesting topic, but it should have been made as a one-shot documentary film, not a series.

Fortunately "God or the Girl" is more intriguing than its sensational title suggests, albeit with its share of flaws.

You may have to be quite interested in Catholicism or religious fervor to check out low-key guys who regard lust as "sick" and get amped up over seeing the pope, proselytizing against abortion or saying "Christ always triumphs."

The cameras in "God or the Girl" are so intrusive, and their presence so invasive, you spend much of the program wondering how different the reality depicted might have been if no crews were present, or were less obvious with their presence.

What better day than Easter to appropriate religion in another demonstration of cable's desperate look-at-me pursuit of television profits?

Bill J gave it a10:
Great show.

Matthew B gave it a4:
I thought the show could have been good but was very lacking. The male's desire to the priesthood were sincere but the show lacked many parts. The spiritual directors were mean, not accepting and at some points just plain stupid. The carrying of the cross teaches alot about sacrafice and suffering, but does not aid in a discernment process towards the Catholic priesthood. It is not God or the Gril, both options are God! Two different vocations in life, but both serve God's call for us in our lives. I went into this showing hoping it would help me out wiht my own personal discernment process about priesthood and left the sowing being and and upset about the series.

Barb gave it a9:
I was pleasantly surprised to find this show was quite respectful about its topic. It was interesting to follow each young man's story, challenges, and family dynamics. Steve struck me from the start as one who would make the decision for the priesthood. A very commendable effort.

Eric L gave it a2:
Lame at best. A horrible attempt to sensationalize boring guys boring decisions. I felt nothing for these "reality" show contestants. At times it almost seems staged, and still comes across as trivial.

Lolly gave it an8:
This is interesting and once you get over the wierd, slightly scary graphics between sections and the whole carrying the cross thing. (Both of which make the church seem more punitive than it really is...) By the end you want the best for the guys.

Lindsay W gave it an8:
This show is very refreshing and definitely brings up topics that should be talked about!

Bern G gave it a10:
Interesting!
