Danes, now shimmeringly adult, provides both an audio commentary and a separate, candid interview. Many young performers are anxious to leave their early work behind, but Danes recognizes what an extraordinary experience she had in her first starring role, and seems to treasure it as much as we do.

The set is chock full of sweet extras, such as an impassioned essay by TV titan Joss Whedon ("Buffy," "Angel," "Firefly") about the influence the show, which debuted in 1994, had on him and on television in general.

The series has been available on DVD since 2002 in a minimalist set with the 19 episodes only, but a new edition, in stores Tuesday, offers a number of features that will be a godsend for fans.

My So-Called Life, the best TV drama of the '90s, which returns this week on DVD, was unafraid. Though it focused its fearless eyes on teen angst with its attendant sex, alcohol and minute mean-spiritedness, it was also about the life of everybody in the family.

For those who've long wondered what might have happened next--to Angela, her parents, to Rickie - Holzman offers a few hints in the foreword to an accompanying booklet, none of which should prove surprising, the groundwork having been well laid.

The nicely designed box set also includes commentaries on six episodes that are worth listening to for the most part.

Chad S. gave it a10:
Premature cancellations I agonized over: "Freaks and Geeks", "Once and Again", "Relativity" and "EZ Streets"; all stellar shows that met across-the-board indifference from the American viewing public. But nothing was more devastating than the cancellation of "My So-Called Life". Until her breakthrough role in "Shopgirl", Claire Danes did absolutely nothing to justify her (alleged) role in the show's demise. Angela Chase is the greatest single character in television history. Danes is only now beginning to step outside the shadow of her 16-year-old-self.
