As soapy, sappy, Christmas adaptations go, this one's pretty good - until it totally falls apart at the end with the most preposterous finale imaginable.

This milquetoast cable movie doesn't even have the guts to make its protagonist dislikable enough to deserve a lesson. [22 Dec 2006, p.71]

"A Perfect Day is a Christmas movie" only in the sense the movie's denouement coincides with Christmas. Otherwise, it's just a run-of-the-mill contrivance where problems are easily rectified and life can be distilled into greeting card sentiments.

Rita W gave it a7:
I liked it. Yes, it was a little sappy, but so what? Rob Lowe is great in this movie, as in anything he plays in. Great traditional family values----money and fame are not everything.
