Quite possibly the most influential TV shows of all time. Gene Roddenberry created a complex imaginary universe still admired by Sci Fi fans today with a cult following that is now mainstream. This show had a an Asian, an African woman, and Russian as high ranking members of the crew, which at the time was unheard of. It featured TVs first interracial kiss between a Caucasian (Kirk) and an African (Uhura) thanks to William Shatner intentionally ruining all the footage they shot where they tried to pan the camera up to hide it because he felt it was absurd that they wanted to edit it out. And of course there were always those green alien species Kirk was always hitting on lol. I think the different alien factions represented different aspects of ourselves, Human-emotion, Vulcan-reason, Klingon-Libido, etc. This show had many episodes with intellectual and philosophical themes, with just enough Space Cowboy fighting thrown in to keep the network happy (Gene had to market it as "Gunsmoke in Space" to finally get it on the air. It used allegory to tackle subjects like racism, the senselessness of war, the dangers of becoming absolutely dependent on technology, etc. Although the show looks corny by today's standards, it was an amazing show for its time and still better than most of the junk on TV today, definitely a 10/10. It is not perfect, but it comes very close to it, because there are no bad episodes, there is only the perfect, good and reasonable, the topics range far beyond the science fiction, go areas and human etc, iconic characters and themes make this series addressed the mother of science fiction.

Star Trek is one of the most influential TV shows of all time and even close to it's 50th anniversary it still lives on. What is not to like about Star Trek, likable and dynamic cast, good original stories even to this day, the production quality by todays standards is cheesy at best but at the time it was revolutionary, although the original series is losing it's appeal with the youngStar Trek is one of the most influential TV shows of all time and even close to it's 50th anniversary it still lives on. Star Trek is the pioneer of modern Sci-Fi long before Star Wars was even conceived. I highly recommend picking up the restored Blu Ray edition sets.
