I bought Survivors: Complete Seasons One and Two for $49.99 from Barnes and Noble without knowing anything about it besides what was explained on the box. "Down to earth sci-fi at it's gritty best." is what ultimately enticed me to fork over the money for this British post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama. Survivors is a modern day reimagining of the original show that shared the name, which ran from 1975-1978. It incorporates the main storyline from the original along with sub-plots, characters, and many settings while adding a fresh new feel in order to draw in modern viewers. The entire first season itself is decently long, with a 90 minute pilot and five subsequent 60 minute episodes. I wouldn't reccomend the hardcore science fiction fans buy this because it's not an alien or technological show. Instead, it is a series about a group of diverse people in Britain brought together by a global pandemic of influenza. They must learn to work and live together along with interacting with other survivors of the virus. The first season of Survivors starts strong. I remember watching the pilot and feeling a chill run up my spine as Anya's girlfriend opened the door, revealing the room full of corpses, which gave us the impression that the virus was more fatal than the government was willing to admit. I genuinely thought about what would happen if I survived a decimating virus after the first episode. The characters themselves are reasonably easy to connect with and grow to like. The acting is good, as is the actor's portrayal of their person's personality. The filming isn't something American viewers are used too, as a different approach is taken with birds eye shots and close ups. Also, the longer episodes and shorter season is something people will either like or dislike in the Northern America. Overall, the first season of Survivors is an entertaining and worthwhile show to watch. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes shows with drama, a mild dose of action, and deadly viruses. Expand

Imagine the early parts of 28 Days Later stretched out to a feature-length pilot. It's the end for the world as we know it, and I feel bored.
  2. I think "Survivors" is going to have a hard time getting noticed, not just because BBC America is way up there on digital cable, but because the hoopla surrounding the end of "Lost" is unrelenting, and "Survivors" just hasn't done anything to break through.
  3. I found the first episode of "Survivors" incredibly depressing and began to think longingly of rewards challenges and hidden immunity idols. But a subsequent episode, though devoid of tribal councils, did provide enough heart and even occasional flashes of humor to make survival - and the continuation of "Survivors" - seem like a fate considerably better than death.
