The show at least moves at a fast clip and blazes past some impressive scenery ... Despite the higher production values, "The Amazing Race" offers little more than a blur of people shouting, "Which way do we go?" [5 Sep 2001]

The show's global scope, scenery and overall sense of adventure make it a veritable Doctor Zhivago of the [reality] genre compared with most of the swill lately in play. [2 Sep 2001]

As always with these shows, skepticism is advised about the "reality" of "Amazing Race," from camera positioning to participants hamming it up for the lens while embarking on what Keoghan, in an upchuck of host hype, calls "the most daring competition ever attempted." [5 Sep 2001]

A dense stew of contestants, rules and requirements. ... Some viewers may be content and even entertained by this dramatically photographed jumble of elements, but I found tonight's installment confusing to the point of being off-putting. [5 Sep 2001]

I love this show. I never thought I'd love a reality show, because mostly I hated all those shows with their wannabe models, fat yutzes and half-wits who try to be as smart as the fat yutz from "Survivor" but are dumber than a family tree of Bushes. But this one actually is so good I am already addicted.
