After a brilliant second season, the third season sadly downshifts. To be fair, the first and third episodes were strong, and almost season two quality. The worst episodes of the season (Episodes 2, 7, and 8) focus more on Cathy's descent into madness. They tried to make her character more edgier which, if anything, made me dislike her more. At the time of original watching, (around midseason) I almost quit watching. Upon rewatching, I thought I might have overreacted. The only character I liked this season was a guest star: Susan Sarandon who was great, but I wished she got better stuff to work with. Overall, this season is messy and barely the quality of the first two seasons, but if you are a fan of the show, I would recommend it, but lower your expectations. Trust me. Expand

While the acting is still top notch, the writing leaves quite a lot to be desired. Characters are almost ruined in this third season. Character development is reversed, and that's never a good thing.

As much as I enjoyed watching the previous seasons and looked forward to new episodes every week, this season has been a chore to watch. It is no longer a sincere portrayal of a woman facing cancer, but rather a soap box for the writers to express social criticisms (for example, the show's take on Christianity is decidedly negative and insulting). Characters are put in bizarre, unrealistic situations and we are meant to interpret this to be compelling tv. I was on Cathy's side during past seasons, but now her actions are outlandish and unrelatable. I want Marlene back. Expand

With this season's allotment of episodes at a premium (10, down from the previous seasons' 13), it's a shame The Big C doesn't make the most of each one of them.

First impression of the third season is a good one.
