This series is about the bonds of family and heated power struggles--with a big dose of vampiric hedonism mixed in. Sounds like the makings of something pretty fang-tastic.
Gillies’ character is one for the ages, and although the actor’s portrayal of him is as wonderfully measured as ever, his actions here feel like the equivalent of a vampire Parent Trap situation, with Gillies just trying to keep his siblings together using whatever trickery he can. Yet, in spite of all of these concerns, it still feels like there’s a show here.
One of the best tv shows that ever existed. Never a dull moment and is better than TVD. The central theme of family is what makes this show so great and there is no better family than the Mikaelsons!
Amazing! I watch everything and anything and this just doesn't compare! Its so unique and shocking. The plot twists are so clever and **** not predictable like all the other shows out at the moment. And its focuses more on family ties which is not what a lot of other shows do.
The premiere episode of the new series, "Always and Forever," tells pretty much the same story as the backdoor pilot, only from the point of view of Elijah (not Klaus, as before). This works on some levels but stumbles on others.
Like 'Vampire Diaries' (and so much else), The Originals lacks a sharp wit, preferring the heavy-velvet drapery of self-seriousness and pretend passion.
The Originals should give us some idea of just how deep the current teenage affection for vampire stories goes. If it can support a show this ludicrously written and terribly cast, it's deeper than most adults can fathom.
very good series, love that show is picking up, hate that sometimes they make Klaus look weak.. after all his is the Original Hybrid. pleased with the directing. very excited to see a season 4
Last year, The Vampire Diaries gave us a preview of what the spinoff, The Originals would be like. And, if very much is, exactly how they said it would be. The question remains, is the character of Klaus, notorious for doing everything we don't want him to do but still managing to not have us COMPLETELY hate him because of his moderately good looks and awesome powers enough to sustain a show? After two episodes, I'm not so sure. The show... lacks color and variety. What I mean is, the cast isn't very strong in terms of likability and unless they throw in some crazy Vampire Diariesesque twists and surprise deaths, I feel it will not live beyond a first season. It's not terrible, I didn't say that but it's not the Vampire Diaries. Klaus isn't really doing it for me.
As a fan of The Vampire Diaries, I expected a lot from this show, and found myself completely underwhelmed by the result. It is not that the actors are any worse in the show, it is not that the plot twists are any less entertaining, and it is not that I was put off by the darker tone, it is that the heart and soul that really made me care what happened to the characters, including the originals, in The Vampire Diaries is nowhere to be found. Though the creators of the show can fix this and have the time to do so, they had better do it fast or I may just give up on this extremely disappointing show.
