This air of familiarity notwithstanding, the pilot is splendidly rendered; effective in the expected ways in a way that makes you forget you expected them.
Anxious fans should be pleased, and curious viewers outside the usual demographic might even be surprised.

SEASON 1
A not-bad formula gothic that'll rise or fall on the Dekker/Robertson chemistry; I'm betting on the former.
The CW built this predictable teen supernatural romance as a companion to the similar and better "Vampire Diaries.".
There's nothing wrong with any of this except that it doesn't feel fresh or new; there's no added, bewitching spark to a familiar concept.
To say Secret Circle isn't spellbinding is an understatement. Originality and surprise are the main ingredients missing from this tepid witches' brew.
Based on a book series from the same author who ginned up The Vampire Diaries and drawing upon every market-tested trope the witchy-poo genre has to offer.
This was an amazing tv show I wish they didn't cut it off but please one more time make season 2!I'm begging you!I know they cut it off but there are fans

SEASON 1
After three episodes I was ready to give up and then I watched the **** thinks this show has legs and given the chance it may get dark. Episode 4 introduces the concept of demons and spooky Heather's turn has given me renewed confidence that this show is going to get better and better. It's got its faults - Natasha Henstridge's face doesn't move; the concept, even down to a magical crystal mirrors the much loved Vampire Diaries; the boys aren't hot enough; and gran doesn't seem to care that a lamp gets broken every ****.... introducing demons could make it fun and Williamson's got form that cant be denied. A slow burn, perhaps!

There is plenty here that works but even more that doesn't. The Secret Circle boast an incredibly talented and beautiful cast of actors but that cannot help the fact that overall its a little too safe, a little too boring for a show created by The Vampire Diaries' Kevin Williamson. The opening scene of the show may be its best with Gale Harold being a great choice for a villain with his scenes coming off as incredibly tense and electric. The main aim of the pilot is to set the story moving in and it does pose some decent questions and ideas but it fails to make the episode enjoyable while doing so. Much like the 1st season of The Vampire Diaries did it seems to be taking its time, preparing to ramp up the danger by seasons end but at the moment there isn't much worth getting invested in.

Into episode 3 now... Unlike The Vampire Diaries, TSC seems to be aimed at 14 year old girls only. I've tried to give it a chance but it's not for guys and anybody over the age of 15, no matter what gender. The story and pace is lightweight. The acting is ok and the people are generically good looking. All of the high school cast look over 20 when it's supposed to be a high school thing.. And that's because they are all way older than 20! Anyway I'm not saying it's bad. It's just not well written for people over the age of 15.

This really is the most CW'ish show ever. Its like gossip girl with magic or Harry Potter if it was written by Stephanie Meyer. The characters are all so teen'ish and its all about their high school issues and conflicts. There is nothing to drive the plot along so its just so slow and boring. Unless you are a 14 year old girl or just want to see attractive characters going to school in somewhat slutty outfits, avoid it.
