  • Summary: Originally created by cartoonist Matt Groening, "Our Favorite Family," has graced the small screen in one form or another for over 20 years. The Simpson family first appeared on television as the subjects of interstitial "shorts" on The Tracey Ullman Show in April of 1987. The Simpsons remained a staple on The Tracey Ullman Show for three seasons until they premiered in their own half-hour series, on December 17, 1989. With the help of Jim Brooks and Sam Simon, Matt Groening's cartoon family turned into an instant success.

Set in Springfield, the average American town, the show focuses on the antics and everyday adventures of the Simpson family; Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, as well as a virtual cast of thousands. Since the beginning, the series has been a pop culture icon, attracting hundreds of celebrities to guest star. The show has also made name for itself in its fearless satirical take on politics, media and American life in general.

Currently in its 21st season, The Simpsons has piled up over 440 episodes, over 20 Emmy Awards, a handful of music albums, countless endorsements and merchandise, and even made the jump to the silver screen in the summer of 2007 with The Simpsons Movie. And according to Matt Groening, "There is no end in sight."

For me The Simpsons tenth season was when we first began to see a few mediocre, but by no means poor, episodes slip into the schedule. After well over two-hundred episodes the writers began to rely on ever more outlandish premises that took away some of the clever satirical edge and social commentary it had become famed for.

Having said that any season that contains episodes as funny as 'Viva Ned Flanders', 'Wild Barts can’t be Broken' and Homer to the Max' is still more than worthy of a nine out of ten in my book.

The last of the good Simpsons seasons. While watching season 10 you can tell from some episodes that the quality is starting to decline after ten years. Don't get me wrong, there are some very good episodes here but also some bad ones. Viva Ned Flanders and Im with Cupid are very funny Especially Homer in those two episodes is hillarious. However, episodes like Bart the Mother, Monty cant buy me Love, The Old Man and the C Student and Lisa get's an A are very weak with just occasional laughs. Season 10 is the last one to feature Phil Hartman as Troy McLure and Lionel Hutch dew to his tragic death. Expand

The beginning of the tragic, drawn out end of this once magnificent show. Original material becomes very sparse as the new guard of writers takes over and tries desperately to imitate what once made it popular. This grating cycle is repeated for 12 seasons after this and still going. Expand
