The intelligent social commentary and satire of pop culture was gradually being replaced by episodes in which the family found themselves involved in increasingly bizarre antics.

Episodes such as E-I-E-I (Annoyed Grunt) and Saddlesore Galactica certainly had their funny moments but lacked that special something the show previously delivered in every single episode. There are still signs of what it is capable of in Beyond Blunderdome, Behind the Laughter and Treehouse of Horrors X (possibly my favourite of all the Halloween specials) but there very few episodes that could be considered amongst the best The Simpsons has offered.

THIS is the moment the Simpsons fell down a slope and straight off of a freaking cliff. It has horrid and disjointed plots, Homer doing things that make no sense and are just downright mean, and one of the worst episodes ever, Beyond Blunderdome. Ugh. How any of this garbage got into the writing room just baffles me. Mel Gibson comes to Springfield, of all places? Springfield!? There's not only that, but this episode's plot and others are so loosely connected you'd think you were watching Family Guy. All of this sh!t is so godawful that watching it again would probably make me want to hammer a nail into my teeth, just to get my mind off of its mind-numbingly stupid and illogical plots. Seriously, Mike Scully needs to get bent. Full Review »
