People watch The Voice for the coaches, not the contestants--and at a time when everyone's fighting on American Idol, with Nicki Minaj playing the angriest Oompa Loompa on TV, it's nice to see judges having fun.
May 13, 2013Reality singing competitions are only good when you have savvy judges with a sense of purpose about their roles. This show brings that. Some of the guest medleys are over produced, but the solos by the contestants are nicely arranged and focus on the raw talent of the vocalists. I don't always agree with the judge's opinions or critiques, but they often disagree amongst themselves too. I think that Usher has the best musical insight of all the judges, and I find the rehearsal sessions he conducts to be a consistent highlight of the show. The i-tunes "real-time" voting dynamic extends the suspense. It's fun to check on which songs/singers are selling best. Feels very interactive and relevant.… Expand
Jun 19, 2013To start off with the judges, Adam and Blake are awesome. Usher is ok but I still prefer Cee Lo over him. Shakira sort of fades in and out for me but I still think she is an improvement over the very annoying Christina. I hate how performances are pre-recorded and not live, I also hate how it has more of a studio vibe then a live performance, Which is why you cant trust any of the performances you hear because they are noticeably tweaked during editing. Don't really care how they use itunes sales in addition to the voting (each single sold is 1 vote) because it not only makes it very predictable who will go through and who will not but it sort of ruins the whole reason to vote in the first place. It's an unfair advantage imo and unneeded. Overall, It's been a pretty average season, I'm suprised how quickly The Voice has become another generic reality singing show.… Collapse
