This series is bar none, the best science documentaries I have seen in recent times. It's perfect for both the layperson and the well read scientist.

Through the Wormhole starts by presenting commonly accepted explanations of scientific phenomenon then goes on to present segments about cutting edge research in ways to manipulate said phenomenon as well as discusses speculative theoretical physics research. The speculative theoretical portions are interesting because they discuss the current boundaries of scientific knowledge and the ongoing search to find answers by showing specific experiments being performed or in the process of being built. Some of the speculative theories presented could be considered fringe or are commonly met with skepticism by the scientific community but the show usually mentions how mainstream a concept is considered.
