Soapy melodrama aside, Titanic does a fine job giving viewers a sense of what it was like to be aboard the doomed vessel.

This fast-paced Titanic miniseries gets better as it goes along.

While Titanic gets melodramatic and even a little soapy, it achieves what seems to be its main goal: to remind us that when the ship went down, the most terrible loss may have been 1,500 dreams.

It's like watching a manor house sink beneath the waves with loud, hissing pomp. [16 Apr 2012, p.50]

This stately effort manages to be too big, and not nearly big enough.

Even good actors like Linus Roache (the Earl of Manton, as starchy as his collars), Toby Jones (as his obsequious lawyer) and Maria Doyle Kennedy (as Jones' harpy wife) fail to rise above these contrived circumstances.

The cast is universally fine, but there's honestly nothing much it can do to avoid being swamped with Fellowes' arrogant attempt to capture the social dimensions of turn-of-the-century Britain, oh, and the sinking of this big boat too.

I enjoyed this. It showed the story from different people's perspectives. As far as the comment here that says they hope this get canceled? It was 2 night mini-series so it is already completed. Expand

it's a good tv program but it's just like the movie, the story of some dude who was in the titanic, i think it's a good tv program for commemorate the 100 years of the sinking but still needs a bit more of taste and something more different, not just people dying in the incident Expand

This review contains spoilers. Was a horribly written show, where the effects looked cheap, and where the history didn't even feel accurate.

When the ship started to go down, there looked to be little to no panic and hardly told the real story of the survivors who told their story. It was like somebody had said: "Right. Let's take the tragic story of titanic and act like there were really only 300 people on the boat instead of 2,200"

And when the boat went down in the final episode, it looked like there was hardly anyone in the water. The ship also went down way too quickly, and the "Atlantic ocean" did not look as cold as it should have been. In fact it actually looked like they were in a swimming pool than an ocean. Also the idea that each episode started with the beginning of the voyage and ended at the middle of the ships sinking really confused the heck out of me, because i didn't know if half the scenes were before a previous scene from the last episode or not.

I suppose the one good thing of this show was probably Jenna's character. She was sweet.

But all in all, a dreadful show that just shouldn't have been made. Needless to say, the movie was better.
