Toy Story That Time Forgot attests to the strengths of this fictional universe by relying on its deep bench of supporting players.... Schaal’s capacity for wonder enlivens a plot that harkens back to the first Toy Story.
An instant delight that is sure to be a favorite perennial for years to come.

The extended action sequences leave less time for the franchise's signature adult-friendly heart and wit, but there's are still some great sight gags and winking references. [5 Dec 2014, p.76]
Toy Story That Time Forgot--which will be paired with the perennial “A Charlie Brown Christmas”--actually fulfills that time-honored tradition of delivering genuine family fare around the holidays.
Three years may seem like a long wait for the next “Toy Story” film but if the Disney-Pixar bosses want to fill the gap by turning loose the imaginations of their team on entertaining, wildly creative shorts like Toy Story that Time Forgot, fans will surely approve.
It's still fun, still sweet, and still a pleasure to hear Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Wallace Shawn and the gang voice these characters, but.... Toy Story That Time Forgot on the whole is a story that could have been told in half the time and been twice as effective.
Because of the short-form length, this Toy Story doesn’t have the barrage of witty asides and pop culture fun that we’ve seen in the movies.
