  • Summary: Real-life suburban housewives get together each week to discuss their personal lives (what, did you think they would actually discuss literature on primetime television?) in this CBS reality show.

The show isn't all that different from Bravo's recent Real Housewives of Orange County, although the production values are much higher--everything has an expensive, carefully lit feminine gloss that perfectly matches the homemakers. [19 Jun 2006, p.37]

"Tuesday Night Book Club" has the effect of making viewers wish to live somewhere less petty and self-destructive than America, or at least the Scottsdale of this show.
  3. "Book Club" is one of those "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" series. You know, the kind that promote themselves as giving unvarnished looks into real-life issues facing women in a variety of situations but that mostly exist to exploit them.
  4. Since these "Book Club" women do not seem inclined either to read or discuss their books, my advice is to follow their example - and neither watch nor discuss "Tuesday Night Book Club."

A line-for-line ripoff of Bravo's not-terribly successful "The Real Housewives of Orange County."

Every moment of this repugnant product is absolutely precious, if you have a fetish for counterfeit emotions, Tupperware cheeks, ice-pick fingernails, and "real women" who can cry on cue -- without spoiling their makeup.

The high quality production seem to be throwing veiwers off in buying into these women being real.

We still miss Tuesday Night Bookclub. The show was very addictive and interesting to watch. We were just talking about it again the other day. Loved the newlyweds and the woman with the animals. It was really a good show. Expand

it's a "we''re pretty with too much money and nothing to do so let's play dress up and make a tv show of our so-called lives" show! Expand

Ugh! I used to be a stay-at-home mom, and I never even had time to complain about things like these women do! And as for Kirin--31??--I don't think so honey. They may be rich in money, but they are the most shallow, self-centered group of *itches to come down the pike in a long time! Shame on ALL of them. I will never watch again. Expand

I shall not waste precious breathing time to watch this inane series. I would much rather read a good book.
