The relentless bleakness would be my only quibble with the series; one doesn't often choose to feel as battered as the characters on screen. But you won't be able to turn it off.

The result is satisfyingly twist-filled and chilling in every sense.

In many ways, Branagh's Wallander slides seamlessly into a long line of screen detectives who think more loudly than they talk.

Wallander, as you might expect, has a very Scandinavian tone, full of gray landscapes and characters shot through murky panes of glass. But the acting is excellent, down to supporting-cast members.

Vide Shakespeare and all the other roles, Mr. Branagh has never been better cast.

Still one of the best TV series ever made. There are reasons not to like it sure ( no boobs, too realistic, etc.) but the writing, dialogue, acting and cinematography is world-class. This show doesn't appeal to a wide audience. But if you are old enough to hold a conversation for three minutes without texting, don't need to see explosions and boobs every three minutes and can accept that superheroes aren't real you may love it. Goodbye farce-infused veneer-thin fly by the seat of your pants plot twists and make way for something that is intelligent and realistic. Expand
