More than friends, but less than lovers, the two share a special bond and their personalities easily balance one another's. In addition to the stable Will and Grace, the show features Will's flamboyantly gay friend, Jack and Grace's sarcastic, spoiled, and boozy assistant, Karen.
Will & Grace is the only series of such length (8 years) to have all of its episodes directed by the same director, in this case the talented James Burrows. Will & Grace is also one of the three series in which all of the main cast memebers won Emmy awards, with the other two shows being The Golden Girls, and All in the Family.
Throughout its 8-year run, Will & Grace has been nominated for 83 Emmys, 24 Golden Globes, 14 SAG Awards and six People's Choice Awards. Among its 12 Emmy wins, the show won as Outstanding Comedy Series in 2000. In 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006, it had more Emmy nominations than any other comedy series. Additionally, it's been nominated for an American Comedy Award, three GLAAD Media Awards and a Founders Award from the Viewers for Quality Television. NBC Broadcast History

A show for grown-ups, with a witty script, a charismatic cast and the good sense to leave the messages on the cutting-room floor. [21 Sep 1998]

Smart, sweet and often hilarious, "Will & Grace" is everything a sitcom needs to be. [21 Sep 1998]

Witty and interesting. ... If comedy dialogue, slapstick and emotional moments continue to be handled with the skill displayed in the pilot, "Will & Grace" could emerge as one of the season's survivors. [21 Sep 1998]

[A] pleasant sitcom ... The bawdy asides sound witty rather than smutty, and the show has been shrewdly assembled. [20 Sep 1998]

The show needs to guard against the cutesies ... and allow both principals to do more than talk about their sex lives.

Its premise is humdrum, its two co-stars lack chemistry, and it seems essentially indistinguishable from most of NBC's other slipshod tripe. [21 Sep 1998]

A funny show that uses its cast to its fullest, but the screenplay writers are the deserving starts of the show. Very witty, very entertainingA funny show that uses its cast to its fullest, but the screenplay writers are the deserving starts of the show. Very witty, very entertaining it leaves you with wanting and needing more and more. For a first season it is excellent and it makes great space for future seasons to come.
Debra Messing, as Grace, is excellent and is definitely the best one of the cast. Eric McCormack is the underused potential, as Will, but that is mainly due to his character - he's just not that funny.
Sean Hayes' Jack is brilliantly funny and refreshing as an over-the-top gay man. Mullally's transformation as Karen Walker is quite interesting and one can see that the character was being developed as the show went on and as the audience responded to her different character traits - she will definitely be much different and more prominent in the later seasons, for Mullally manages to take the best of her character and channel it brilliantly!

However, one thing that bothers me is how, the characters are fun on the show, but, in real life, I'd honestly find these people snooty and annoying. The references also feel obscure, making the viewer feel left out of a lot of jokes if they aren't especially well read. Expand

I defiantly didn't like the first season, watch the pilot, so you can know the characters. Then start season 2 where it gets better.
