And simply put, itDark Souls 2 had a lot to live up to from the moment is was conceived following the smash hit that was its predecessor.
And simply put, it does not live up to it. It doesn't have as interesting a world, as memorable boss encounters or as intriguing NPCs. It is probably the most dull of the entries into the Souls series.
And yet, even at its worst, Dark Souls 2 still offers a better experience than most other games of this genre to the player. Though the difficulty level has certainly been toned down, the game play and online matchmaking are more refined than they ever have been.

Laughing at the funny gags, the over the top story and the funny game play elements that have been introduced into this Saints Row. I was enjoying myself.
But gradually, the laughter stopped. I managed to scrape my way through about 6 of the main campaign missions. Once I looked past the humor, I began to see the true nature of this game. It's a mess, a mess that is uncomfortable to play. And gradually becomes more uncomfortable as you go. For example, upgrading your jump ability to max makes it cumbersome to jump up small buildings because a slight tap will send you way up into the sky. This part in particular isn't a deal breaker, but little things like this coupled with an inconsistent and borderline unplayable frame rate combine to make a game that looks like fun to play, but really isn't. I recommend avoiding this game on the PS3, if you must get it, the PC version is apparently a lot better.… Expand

Acclaim that would lead a gamer to believe this game is as close to perfect as it can get. It clearly is not.
The main plot of Skyrim can be summed up in three words; 'You kill dragons'. That's it. The game makes a damn fine effort to cover up this most lackluster plot by putting a plethora of side quests and explorable areas into the game. They seem neat at first, but quickly become 'run through dungeon, grab items, use shortcut at the end to exit.' There are a few unique ones that really held my attention but the majority bored me.
The game play is mediocre at best. Though it promises to be varied by offering a few different approaches, it quickly becomes an annoyance. It only becomes interesting once you get to a high level and enemies become more resistant to your best skills. But then, this is after at least twenty hours of playing and what's the point of levelling up if enemies counter skills you focus on.
The soundtrack was largely forgettable and the voice acting is laughable.
Everything feels so rigid in Skyrim. I am constantly reminded I am playing a game, by completely uninteresting NPCs with the same VO, lackluster gameplay and glitches. Skyrim isn't the worst game, far from it in fact. It's an average game filled with average content that begs your attention but ultimately fails to hold it.… Expand

The DLC contains a new playable character with a completely different move-set to Dante and six brand new missions to play through. I'l keep this short to avoid spoilers. The game play is very entertaining. The plot seemed average at first, but upon replaying it I noticed a lot of symbolism and ways to interpret just what is going on in the DLC. The soundtrack isn't as memorable as the main game. The visuals still look great but some of them (quite a lot actually) are ripped straight from the main game. If you enjoyed DmC, this is worth the price tag. If not, you probably won't enjoy this.
Also, for those of you who tremble at the thought of Dante's new look, this DLC has a white haired protagonist.… Expand
