There is a lot of new character development going on this season, which has to happen when so many have fallen off in the first 2 years. It seems as though the new characters present Nucky with issues he never would've struggled to deal with in the past and maybe that is part of the frustration with this season for me - watching what was a formerly super powerful Nucky get pushed around by a Gyp Rosetti sucks. Season 1 you never would've expected Nucky to take what he does from Rosetti or others. Maybe it is my fault for not being prepared to deal with a weak Nucky or the necessary new character development. I also feel that there are so many plot lines now, some with little intersection or multiple degrees of separation that you just don't get enough out of each episode. Every week I hope for plot lines to come together but then there are weeks where a major development from the prior week is left untouched the next week. The muddled timeline and confusion around passage of time scene to scene and week to week is confusing too.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not ready to give up. Just looking for a little more than I've been getting like we did in the past when every week I couldn't wait to see what happens next week. This year I'm assuming it will take much of the season to build to that point again.… Expand

There is a pretty commonI think this is a guy's show. My wife isn't interested but I am. Not because anything in particular stands out. There is a pretty common hour-long crime premise that has an overriding arc with a continuing saga week-to-week between the hero and villain (20 minutes laying out the crime, 20 minutes solving the crime and 2-4 minutes building the series arc). It is a tried and true method that works for the masses and isn't too disappointing when it has such a rich overlay of Vegas in the 60's and terrific character actors in Quaid, Chiklas, Mara and others. The show lends itself to glitzy guest-starring appearances in the future and has enough star power to keep it going for awhile. I think it would be much better as a cable series that could be grittier and even better on a movie channel where Vegas and the Mob is portrayed as Vegas and its early mob influences were instead of the PG version. All in all it is a good show that I don't look forward to because I can't wait to see what happens. Rather it is one that I look forward to because I like the actors, their characters and the backdrop of old Vegas. One of my guilty pleasures that I wouldn't expect a real critic to get but something a real viewer would understand.… Expand

Sick one weekend a couple of months back I added Showtime and watched all of the first season back to back in one sitting. Couldn't stop watching. Season 2 hasn't disappointed and I can't wait to see each episode every Sunday night. This has made it into my top five and is probably my number 1 drama now. Great acting, writing and stories.
