Average User Score: 7.8Nov 13, 2013Overpriced for what is essentially a double-sized DLC. Wait until it goes on deep discount.
Do you think anyone from the design team reads these?
I was excited about the medal feature when I was surprised by its inclusion, until I saw my 'soldier' dressed in a frumpy uniform saluting like she was a 4 year-old. For the love of Pete Firaxis, look at some military people when making 'military' animations, not bad B-rated sci-movies.
Also, I had hoped that the accuracy estimation would have gotten better, but I still seem to miss an 80% chance to about 66% of the time.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.3Aug 22, 201331 employees of Paradox writing reviews? I can't see how anyone would give this above a 6 rating. But the proof of the mater can probably be seen that only 43 people have bothered to review the game.
More than a year after the initial release, this game has been polished, but it's a polished turd. None of the fun or playability of the first Sword of the Stars, the only thing that might be seen as an improvement is the ship models, but they are largely covered up by obnoxious looking "badges" that look like something from a 1980s clip-art collection, then once the fighting starts (if your game doesn't crash and you give up in frustration before you even meet another empire to fight) horribly garish disco lights are what we get for combat effects.
Save your time, money and sanity and stay away from this title.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.1Jul 17, 2013It's not XCom, but it's pretty fun in its own right.
Too dumbed down to live up to its potential and I still cringe every time the characters grab the carrying handle to fire the LMG. And don't get me started on the "international" team voice actors who all sound like the come from the same two block radius somewhere in middle America. Really, so many things in this game could have been better with just a little bit of thought or effort if only the developer gave a damn.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.3Jul 17, 2013It is a pretty game, until it crashes, and it will.
The "strategy" is next to non-existent as you try to out spread AI players in an endless slog of waiting after pushing the "end turn" button.
So very much wasted potential, doesn't live up to the Master of Orion comparison.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.4Mar 7, 2013Great fun, but not quite a 10. Now that most the bugs have been ironed out by patches the only things that stick out as flaws are the repetitive voice actors and the fact that the 'world' doesn't seem to notice you moving from convict lowlife to savior of humanity in the way they interact with you.
If you haven't tried Skyrim yet, because maybe you've been on Mars or Afghanistan, it is definitely worth picking up.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.3Mar 7, 2013This game intended to "fix" what they did wrong in the original Elemental: War of Magic, but in my opinion turns out to be a little less fun. Not saying that it isn't a fun game in its own right, but they removed my favorite 'elements' of the old game and dumbed it down a little but forgot to do anything to add to the overall 'fun'.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.2Mar 7, 2013The style of character development takes some getting used to and some of the solo missions are a complete pain in the butt; however, it it turns out to be a very enjoyable game with great atmosphere and store lines.
I wish there was a better mechanism for finding groups, it feels very lonely for being a MMORPG. But if you manage to come with a friend or two of your own it is a lot of fun except those solo missions.… Expand
Average User Score: 2.1Mar 7, 2013Pretty sure any review of this game that is "positive" is written by someone who works for EA. How can you possibly say "the game itself is great" when you can't actually get into the game from a public server? It doesn't matter to me how slick the presentation is on the private servers they give to employees and game reviewers.
I predict Maxis doesn't fix the server issue and gives up, leaving us with $60 coaster/DVDs for a game we never got to play. I have learned my lesson on buying "online" games.… Expand
Average User Score: 4.6Dec 8, 2011Even after more than a month of half-hearted patches, this game is unplayable. Great parts of the game menu is still greyed out, and a grand total of NONE of the "features" on the box have been implemented.
Having the audacity to charge people $40 for a pre-beta version of the game is insane. If, and I really mean if, this game ever get's into playable form it might be pretty cool, but if history teaches anything, it's that companies that are willing to screw customers this badly are emptying their bank accounts and buying tickets to the Caribbean. It's been compared to MOO III, but that comparison might actually be unkind to MOOIII.… Expand
