This game is like the ugly kid that only its mother could love. While I like the idea of the way this game works, mixing a point and click adventure with logic puzzles, the execution of this game is totally lacking. The point and click side of things is like a second rate throwback to the early Lucasarts games, only it is clunky, counterintuitive and just plain boring. The logic puzzles are not themed to the task at hand and are just commonly found old puzzles you can play for free in so many flash games on the internet. The voice acting is dire. The graphics are cluttered and the text doesnâ… Expand

This game is great and is far less buggy on the day of release than so many big games I have played lately! Anyone remember Black Ops - unplayable for over a week! For me, the only bugs I have seen is a couple of floating objects (which loads of games have lately) and I can't kick the sandcastles over (which is not a bug but a shame). My mate who has AMD GFX had issues with some lighting, but that will do down to AMD drivers and not the game as it is perfect on my NV card.
Back to Dead Island... it works like a cross between Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead set in Crysis - it's great fun. The story and the characters are pretty good and the fighting is awesome. The game is very pretty, but set on a pacific island it's hard not to be pretty - but that aside, the graphics are done well but they are quite intensive.
Can't wait to get home and play this again!… Expand

It's quite pretty and a good idea, but something is missing for me. I find this puzzles far to simple and linear and there is nothing that drags me into this game and makes me want to keep playing.
I love the fact that it can be a 2 player co-op game, that was good news for me and my girlfriend as rather than taking turns we could both get involved at the same time. But we just found the game boring which is a real shame.… Expand

The 3 games this year have all dragged me in and I have thought of pretty much nothing else while playing them. I would go to work and my mind would be on them and not what i was doing. I would be trying to sleep and I would be thinking about what i had been doing in the game and what could be next. The games were Portal 2, Limbo and From Dust. All puzzle games but all totally different and equally amazing.
With Limbo it starts you off nice and gently but like all good games the further you get in the harder it gets. Some puzzles you could work out as you see them on the screen but some too ages for me to figure out. When you get to a bit you get stuck at limbo does end up like a slow motion Super Meat Boy, but that's OK. There is not much of anything to the game, not much of a story (boy enters limbo to save his sister), not much music, just atmospheric noises, not much graphics (grey-scale all the way through). not much in the way of controls and not much in the way of instruction... but Limbo needs none of this to drag you in and absorb you. The developers got this all just right.
Reading the couple of bad reviews one of the things I noticed was someone complaining that there is no replayability for him. What I would have to say to anyone worrying about that is the game cost £6.99 and I played it to completion. I have a stack of games i paid £30 each for that are sat there installed, played for an hour and I have no desire to go back to. Limbo is great value for money when you look at it like that. I played this to completion over a few days and wanted to play nothing else while doing so.
I would give this a 9.5 out of 10, but Metacritic limits us to whole numbers so I went for 10. The reason I would give 9.5 and not 10 would be for how short the game is, sure, it's great value for money - but I want more! If Limbo 2 came out today then I would buy it in a flash. The other reason it doesnt get 10 is the ending of the game.… Expand

I read the dev's are calling this the heir to populous and I would say that they are spot on with this. I loved Populous when it came out, couldn't stop playing it - same with From Dust. I love the fact that you control nature and not your men live every other god sim, that gives this a really fresh twist - which is exactly what the god sim genre needed. Sure there is a massive puzzle solving element to From Dust, but there always is to god sims and anyone who says otherwise would be lying or so well practiced at the same old god sim games they don't need to think about it (people who played every Age of Empires, Civ, Sim City etc. game would probably have to think a lot less than people like me who play god sims occasionally and don't want to have to watch several hours of tutorials just to be able to start playing like Civ 4).
I found From Dust fun, pretty and addictive. Having completed the main story I am working through the challenge mode which is really cool too. The only thing I would change with From Dust is that I would make it longer in the main story - but the cheaper price reflects the shorted game so it's fair enough.
I can't wait for From Dust 2, but I will probably replay From Dust a few times before it hopefully comes out.… Expand
