Average User Score: 6.3May 27, 2014This action game is an ambitious project. I have read a bit of reviews on it and some of it is spot on while others are complaining mostly about the graphics. I will break this down into three sections, the first will be the graphics, the second will be the game play mechanics and the final is on the game itself.
GRAPHICS; Billed as a next-gen title, I believe that the graphics are a bit of a letdown, the pale in comparison to InFamous Second Son and the latest installment of Killzone Shadow Fall where the graphics were crisp and clear. The graphics on this game are comparison to GTA V. They are good for the PS3 and XB360. but are not mind blowing for XB ONE and PS4. The graphics suffer in the PS4/XBONE, especially in the day time sections where the although they look good, I found them to look just as good as a last-gen game. In some daytime section the characters look stiff and the textures are not as clear as one would expect. The shadows were muddy and the people had no expression. Now the surprising part is that on nighttime missions, the graphics shine through as if it were being played on higher setting. In my opinion the PS4 outshine all the other consoles except for PC's on the higher settings. Even on the PS4 it is a bit of a letdown. (Five out of Ten Stars).
GAME-PLAY MECHANICS; The games has excellent game-play mechanics. The cover system is responsive, the shooting is stellar and the controls are tight, especially when driving. The only problem I had with the game play is the tiny hacking instructions which I had a hard time reading. I have a 54 inch set and found it a bit hard to read. Another problem is that once you're spotted, (as in stealth play) you must react fast or else the auto restart system kicks in and you start where you left off. The menus are good and the game can even show you yours waypoint if you en able it, this makes things much easier, since its a huge game. (Eight out of Ten Stars)
GAME; This game is huge, it is an ambitious project with a lot of missions, side stories, online components and other side games that will make this game a high replay value. It will take you a good twenty hours just to complete the main campaign, which does not include collectibles, trophies, audio files, music, side games ranging from slots to a racing zombie type game. If you thrown in the online component and you'll instantly add hundreds of hours in an living breathing city that changes constantly. Other than some repetitive dialogue abd you can enjoy this games for months to come. (Nine out of Ten Stars).… Expand
Average User Score: 7.5Oct 25, 2013I wanted to love this game, Being a stout fan of the two prior Batman games I was both excited and worried as this project was not spearheaded by RockSteady Games, However from what I heard, both Warner Brothers as well as RockSteady were sure that this new studio was right for the job, so I preordered it.
Number one on my list is the grading system, This is a game, not a test there is no need to produce a grade after each battle, all that is needed, in my opinion is to defeat the people you're fighting. The XP points were enough, it wasn't broken so why fix it!
Number two, the name bothers me, there is no Arkham Asylum in this game and of course no Arkham City. This has nothing to do with an Arkham game. They would've done better to call the game; Batman; Year Two or something to that effect. Warner Brothers wanted to simply ride on the coattails of RockSteady's Arkham series and thus the name Arkham Origin was born. Maybe I am being picky but the only thing that this game has to do with the name is the Joker, The Penguin, Bane and Killer Croc, all the other villains are mostly assassins out to make a buck by killing Batman, which the same can be said by Warner Brothers Game.
Number three, and the one that bothered me the most. WB Games put an embargo date on this game meaning that any reviewer who got a review copy was not allowed to review it until after the release. I did not sign anything and did not get a review copy, I pay for my games and thus I am not dictated by the companies on what I can or can not do. In my opinion any gaming developer who put an embargo for after the release has something to hide. Now I know why, because this game does not hold a candle to Arkham Asylum or Arkham City. Its not a bad game but it is repetitive and more of the same.… Expand
Average User Score: 9.1Sep 11, 2013The Last of Us can easily be, in my opinion, the best PS3 game that Sony has ever released. Naughty Dog's contribution to this gen console is above and beyond your basic third person action game. The world they've created with the Last of Us is believable as well as tense. Within the first five minutes you feel for Joel as this pandemic hits him especially hard and the game uses the moment to tug at your emotions to where you want to put yourself in its place. The game is taut, filled with suspense, and makes you think of what people will actually do to survive day by day and you ask yourself, what if this was me. If you haven't played this game yet you are missing out on one of the best experiences that the PlayStation 3 has to offer. If you do not have a PS3 then buy one, because this game will not let you down.… Expand
Average User Score: 4.8Aug 14, 2012This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review is for the single game-play only as my multi-player skills leave much to be desired. The first thing you notice is those annoying numbers and their meaning. If I understood the premise of the numbers they are locations in the US for sleeper cells, however to Mason they have a more sinister meaning as it is implied that he was involved in the Kennedy shooting. All the missions are told in flashbacks and the game starts at the Bay of Pigs and goes on from there where you will do everything from black covert ops to recon. The mechanics of the game are the usual fare for COD game, however the controls, for some reason feel tighter in the XB360 edition as the PS3 felt kinda mushy to me. The gameplay is solid and the aim-assist can help you, or hinder you depending on the way you loo at it. For the most part the graphic are good except for one or two missions which look like the first gen XBOX, but other than that it is pretty good. As far as the story and game-play, I enjoyed it and it can take anywhere from 6-18 hours depending on how good or how much you play.… Expand
Average User Score: 3.3Jul 23, 2012I am not a multiplayer gamer so I am strictly speaking about the solo game-play of CODMW3. The campaign is frenetic and frantic with a story with more twist and turns than a loop coaster. I started playing this series early and my only complaint is that the campaigns are short and I wish they were longer. T%he graphics are top notched and the game-play mechanics are tight and responsive. Great game.… Expand
