Okay, if anyone who hates Duke Nukem Forever or Aliens Colonial Marine, you can understand the feeling I have with X-Rebirth. I was expecting a AAA experience with a easier learning curve, which is what's been keeping me from getting into the X series in the past, instead I got a half-baked game with crappy performance issue, ugly textures and low poly character model.
I mean I can point you to various game from LAST-GEN has better aesthetic than this game, the Character Models for example What is this? Does it has less polygon than a teapot? How could it possibly looks so ugly anyway? And even if you bump all the effects to maximum it still looks like crap. The only good looking thing is SPACE, and SHIPS (from a distance.).Now the performance is horrendous as well, I can run Battlefield 4, Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3 with medium heigh settings at 30~40 fps, for this game I can't get 30 fps even if I put all the settings to lowest level. It's obvious this game is rushed or poorly designed.
All the above mention is enough to stop me from playing, I'm not someone who judge a game SOLELY by it's graphics, but all these crap breaks the immersion. When a game with so much promise ended up like this.... it's just a total let down and unacceptable.… Expand

Many people argue this is not a game, or say something like "just read a novel or watch a movie", I disagree, the experience of finding out the story behind each object is very different from a novels or films, because as a game it makes you feel like you are really there, in that big house trying to find out what happened (which is a bit of creepy at times, another good point of this game.) as a video game developer can convey many things that other medium can't express, like the little touch to the 90's style in the game, it resonates with a lot of people, but it doesn't feel the same if you see in a movie, it's a totally different experience.
This game alone proves that video game CAN and IS an art form, it can tell a good narrative story, but also offers the feeling of involvement as a video game, it's the perfect combination in my opinion.… Expand

The last time I said this is when I finished Half-Life2, but even HL2 didn't manged to get a 10 out of me, in many respect, I believe Metro2033 even exceed HL2's accomplishments.
Metro has some of the best graphic engine I've seen in years, IMO even Cryengine couldn't compete with the 4A engine which Metro 2033 uses. The lighting and texture are extremely well done, volumtric lighting and fog effect are also very good, it makes the whole world looks extremely convincing. The sub-surface scattering effect on character's skin makes people looks much more believable, unlike in some other games people tend to looks like plastic dolls.
The story is also it's strong point, since it's adapted from a sci-fi novel, but it has a little twist of it's own while still retains the feel of the novel. I bought the novel after finishing the game, it' will definetly gives you a new perspective on the story.
Combat and AI seems a bit strange and unresponsive at first glance but after I know more about the game, I understand the clumsiness I feel during combat is also part of a story setting. You are not a superhero, you are a survivor in a post apocalyptic world, trying to fighting off monsters and fellow humans while carrying a sort of equipment and ammo, of course you don't move and shoot like a Call of Duty character.
In conclusion, all I can saying is Buy this game, play it, if you learn to appreciate it, this will be one of the most immersive gaming experience you will ever have.… Expand

But while it's more action oriented, it is still a very solid and fun action game. The levels are filled with beautiful and atmospheric environment, weapon customization and crafting is fun and adds to the replay value. Co-op is a good addition as well, especially looking things from carver's perspective is interesting way of telling a story. Overall DS3 is a very fun to play action game, but I hope the future of this franchise will return to it's root of Survival horror genre.… Expand

Let's look at the problem people are talking about:I love this game, it worth every penny I spent. Seriously people, it's not that bad.
Let's look at the problem people are talking about:
Alright, I can related to this, the graphic is very poor, textures has really low resolution, and no “Real” anti-aliasing options make things looks jaggy at times. But to say it's horrible? I'm sure you guys hasn't played FEAR 3 before, it's graphic is way worst than ACM, it's story is uninspired and makes no sense at all, but it scores 7.5 on gamespot, really? If we apply the standard people enforce on ACM, every game needs to have Crysis level graphics and big-shot writer script to be call a decent game. But since it's obviously we don't judge a game by it's graphics, than why does ACM gets so much more hate for this?
AI is stupid, no challenge unless play the hardest difficulty
I finished the game on Soldier difficulty, I don't even know where is this opinion coming from, the AI is fine in my opinion. Yes sometimes your AI teammates get stuck on some places, but it's not like it never happened to other games before, and for me it only happens 1~2 times so it didn't bothers me at all. Enemy Xenomorph are fairly intelligent, I heard people are complaining about “They only charge at you, they don't flank you or anything.” I have to say from my own experience, the xenos can move very fast and surround you very quickly if you don't have a good aim, also they pounce at you from a distance sometimes, makes you have to keep pressing E to survive, I say they are fairly challenging. Don't forget the Xenos outnumbering the player by a huge percentage, if they all play hide and seek and being very smart, marines won't have a chance! You wouldn't have a game here.
Story makes no sense, bad ending.
I partially agree with this, the game could use a better story, the ending is a bit abrupt yes, but understandable.(sort of) But even though, I don't think the story is THAT bad, not bad enough to warrant all the hate it got anyway.
Ultimately, I think it comes down to the mindset you got when you play the game. If you got all hyped up by the PR, then you probably going to be very disappointed. But when I play this game I walk into it with one simple mindset
”Kill Xenomorph with Pulse Rifle and Smartgun, visit Sulaco and LV-426, experience the scenes from the movie ”
And I got everything I was paying for, so for me, this game rocks, as for people who expected more than this, unless RIDLEY SCOTT and JAMES CAMERON themselves are working on this project, you are expecting too much from Gearbox.… Expand

Yes, my pc's specification is way above recommended spec , and the graphic still looks like it should came out 3 years ago. Especially for a graphic designer who knows 3d software myself, the texture is so heavily compressed, you can see the artifact which in Photoshop term "Over-Sharpened". Any other open world game came out 1~2 years ago can beat Rage's graphic, this is nothing but disappointing to see id failed on the PC like this, which was supposed to be their primary platform.
And the story is just plain and uninspired, I have no urge to keep playing after the first few missions, the world is dull, the characters are dull, and everything looks very dull. There's nothing driving me forward. Unlike Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas, both sucked me in for weeks, even months, not even counting the DLCs by the way.
In the end, I just don't see any reason you would want to play this game, I don't see any merits in this game. Mind you this is very rare for me, I usually do find some small things that's worth noting in some very bad games, but in this case, Rage simply have nothing for me to recommend to others, so sorry to say this, but don't buy this game. Play Fallout or Elder Scroll series, that's the kind of open world game you would want to play.… Expand
