I spent about three hours on multiplayer team deathmatch last night and the game felt much different. The sound (through turtle beach headphones) is much improved and the video seems more detailed. It is hard to hear footsteps but they are there. One new thing I noticed is that if you bump into things you make noise. The maps seem small but they are intricate, multi-leveled, and provide many paths to move through the map. In contrast MW3 that had basically three paths on most maps.
The new "pick 10" system allows you to customize your loadout the way you want and, with the new wildcards, you can even choose the slots available to customize. I didn't spend much time playing with this feature but it's definitely different (and better) than previous versions.
During gameplay I noticed a couple other things that changed (for the better). Gun accuracy is much worse the faster you move. If you run up on someone moving slow and looking down their sights you will most likely get killed. Also, cover makes a big difference. If your having a shootout with someone and you're behind a box or something you're more likely to kill them. Short range weapons are a lot less accurate at range. No more one-shot kills with and SMG from across the map. Vehicles blow up a lot faster. Particularly if you drop a grenade on them.
In summary from what I have seen I think this game is different enough from the original Black Ops and a huge improvement over MW3 which was basically a remake of MW2 with new maps and challenges. One suggestion I have is to create more vertical maps with four or more tiers. No COD has had so maybe the game engine can't handle it.… Expand

I am giving a lower score because they did not use the best features of black ops: rotating challenges and "buy your gear and perks" model.
To all the people who say the campaign blows I'd like to let you in on something. THIS IS MULTI-PLAYER GAME. If you're buying this game for the campaign please save your money and stop writing the crap reviews saying the campaign sucks. We know this already.
The game is very similar to MW2. So if you like MW2 you will be happy. This is my impression after 2 hours of play on several maps. The map complexity and detail is much improved over black ops with several good sniping lanes and multiple tiers for height advantage. I played over 250 hours of black ops and I think the hit detection is much better. The new "kill confirmed" game mode is interesting. In this mode you have to collect a dead player's dog tags to score points for the team. You can also collect your teams dog tags to keep the other team from scoring points.… Expand

Some people commented thatThis is a review for for XBOX 360 version. Yes it's more of the same but it's still the best MP shooter available. Some people commented that the graphics were bad and I agreed at first. The smoke effects in particular looked horrible. Then I realized that I had mis-adjusted the brightness in the configuration. Once I fixed the brightness the graphics looked fine (or the same as the other COD:MW games). Same basic combat engine with new maps. A few are available to begin and additional maps are unlocked as you level up. The big change with the experience system is that you no longer have to "earn" attachments and perks. You receive $ for playing each match and use this currency to buy attachments, perks, and other items. One new item that looks interesting is the sticky cam. You can place it around a corner and then watch for the enemy. If you enjoyed the previous COD:MW game you should enjoy this one as well. The one gripe I do have is that the cut scenes between levels in the campaign are too long. Most last for several minutes or at least it seems so.… Expand
