The first thing that you have to accept to enjoy this game is the fact that itThis game is a mixed bag of awesomeness and atrociousness.
The first thing that you have to accept to enjoy this game is the fact that it is an action RPG designed for gamepad. Not an isometric tactical RPG playable with mouse and keyboard.
But if you accept that the game is pretty good. The world is huge and nice. The combat has its quirks but works quite fine. Some of the quests are very good and inventive, but about third of them is a MMO trash. Or even mobile free to play trash. If you are a completionist, this can break your enjoyment.
Another thing to note are the long loading times. You really should have SSD hard drive.
So to sum it up. If you own a gamepad, have an SSD and are fine with the fact that it is mostly an action game, it is a pretty solid 7. If they cut third of the game and made the combat a little better it could have easily been 8,5.… Expand

The original was good, then came Dragonfall which is suberb and now come directors cut that brings new companion missions, UI and polish. What more do you need? This game is the king of the isometric RPGs right now. Much better than Wasteland 2 and more focused than Divinity:: Original Sin.
Good story with superb dialogues. Multiple ways to solve quests, sidequests, very interesting side missions with their unique side missions. Very engaging combat and tactical combat, unique hacking and much, much more.
This is not a AAA blockbuster big budget game, but if you like isometric RPGs with good story - buy this one.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.3Oct 20, 2014I really wanted to like this game. But i can't. I love isometric RPGs and i played them all. I even replay both the original Fallouts onceI really wanted to like this game. But i can't. I love isometric RPGs and i played them all. I even replay both the original Fallouts once every three years or so. Sadly, the Wasteland 2 fails on so many levels that the few that are actually good won't save it. And the fact that Divinity: Original Sin and Shadowrun: Dragonfall came out recently and are superior on almost every level makes this game look even worse.
Total letdown. Almost no tactial options. While in Divinity i would use my rogue to sneak behind enemy lines and start with an ability that costs a lot of AP and is only usefull as an opening getting bonuses from backstab as well as from attack from stealth. After that i will use the artifact and teleport my tank to the rogue and make him knock down the most dangerous foe while my mage will teleport oil barrel near the enemies and ignite it. While my tank has fire resist over 100% so the flames actually heal him.
And in Wasteland? I open with a shot. After that all my other characters shoot. Some use the weapon ability to shoot multiple rounds as it has the best dmg/Ap. Then all the enemies shoot, now all my characters shoot. When you are skilled you can try for a headshots (And that just causes more dmg, no penalties to aiming or anything and you can't aim for any other bodypart) Sometimes you can use verticality or cover (that has been clearly added to the game as an afterthought) And THAT IS ALL! No abilities, no gadgets, no skills, no perks. NOTHING!!!
There is none! You have attributes and skills. Attributes can be minmaxed as some are clearly better than the others. Skills are just your percentual chance to do stuff. You will NEVER gain new ability or perk or anything. Nothing that will change the gameplay. You will never learn anything new throughout this game. You will just know how to open a box better. Mainly because boxes near the end of the game are harder to open then the boxes at the beginning of the game. Yes, the same boxes...
As the game desing is bad you will load very often. In fact you will memorize the loading screen very well. You see, everything is percentual and dependant on your skill. IE luck based. You see a locked box with a trap and an alarm. You have 50% to disarm the alarm, 40% to disarm the bomb and 70% to pick the lock. So disarm - fail - disarm - fail - disarm success - alarm - fail - alarm - fail - alarm - success - pick - fail - pick - critical fail - LOAD and repeat.
Amazingly bad. I mean really bad. Much worse than Fallout 1 or 2. It is technically bad (low res textures, low poly models) and aesthetically bad (repeating of assets, assests with different textures next to each other, the same mood everywhere, the same models everywhere). You don't even have much of an avatar picture choice when creating your characters. And some of that pictures are later used in the game on other characters! The graphics are much worse than in The Fall: Last days of Gaia which is old, low budget german post-apo game from nonome developer.
Here it isn't bad. The story is quite good. Sadly it is told via big chunks of texts. I like to read in games. Planescape Torment is one of my most beloved games and it has much more text. But the text in that game is exciting and relevant. Here most of the things that people will tell you are things that you have already heard milion times from others. But you have to read it all because sometimes in this ocean of text there is useful information.
The choices are a mixed bag. You are often presented with multiple choices and you actually feel the consequences. That is very good. But sometimes the choices themselves seem illogical. At the beginning of the game you have to choose to save one of two settlements. Either the superimportant one that feeds all the surroundings including your ranger base, or the other superimportant one that provides water to everyone. You as a new recruit. One ranger of many. And after you do that you suddenldy hear the other rangers chat on radio. How they helped to save some merchants or how they saved some cows. Yea, but they couldn't save the superimportant settlement...
This review might seem too harsh but if someone asked me what game to play - Wasteland 2 or Fallout 1, the game that came out 17 years ago, i would recomment F1 without hesitation. And that tells you something about this game...
If you want to play good modern isometric RPG, play Shadowrun: Dragonfall or Divinity: Original Sin.… Expand
