Average User Score: 9.0Jan 21, 2013I'm writing this review 10 years after the fact and I'm putting things in context for the time the game came out. This game opened my eyes to a different kind of RPG experience. This game is amazing in the aspect of being a great open RPG with an extreme amount of depth to it, the only negative on this game may also be one of its positive qualities as well, it doesn't hold your hand or explain things to the letter, it lets you figure things out on your own, sometimes the hard way. All in all Morrowind is not perfect but definitely a legendary RPG.… Expand
Average User Score: 5.7Mar 12, 2012Boy I never thought I would have to rate a mass effect game below a 9, but in all honestly, I loved the game up until the very end, yes they did dumb it down quite a bit from ME1, and even that was acceptable to me. But the ending was so atrocious that after I just kept thinking "WTF just happened" in my head. I also felt like one of the coolest thing about bioware games, the moral choices you are presented with, were completely pointless, the ending I recieved had absolutely nothing to do with any of my choices, nor did it make any sense what so ever. I will gladly state that I would of rather of seen a cliche action movie ending than what I saw.
PS. I've played both KOTOR 1/2, DA 1/2, Jade Empire, and ME 1/2/3, I'm not a bioware hater considering I've pretty much bought every game they've made for the last 10 years, it's just shameful how bad the ending was...… Expand
Average User Score: 8.2Nov 10, 2011Absolutely worth the 20 bucks, especially if you are a fan of tower defense games, the adventure mode paces the difficulty very well, the coop and versus modes are a GREAT addition, and there are plenty of other side modes to keep you busy with this extremely additctive game.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.7Nov 9, 2011An absolute must have for RPG enthusiasts, this game is extremely deep and addictive, there is an entire world of quests and great story waiting for you. The class system is simliar to previous elder scrolls games, and the customization is very nice, you can really make a character that will play exactly how you want to play the game. The main story is cool, but the oblivion gates can get extremely repetetive, luckily there are many guilds to work for and many side quests that you can pick up along the way all with intricate and interesting stories behind them. This game will take you a great deal of time to completely beat, and its definitely worth it in the end. My only gripes in the game would be that the enemies scale with your level, so your feeling of getting buff after a long period of time never quite get fulfilled because the enemies get tougher right along with you, also the combat system, kind of like previous elder scrolls games can get very repetetive, but these facts are overshadowed by the epic scale of the game. In conclusion if you are looking for a great RPG experience, definitely pick this up and you will see why people sunk so much time into this game.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.8Nov 9, 2011Great game for those looking for a lengthy RPG experience, the talent trees are robust and a allow for a great deal of replayability, and there is MUCH to do as far as side quests and party member quests to add to the play time to the game. My only gripe with the game would be the combat system and the general difficulty of the game, the game seems to spike in difficulty very often, and the lock on combat system can be very annoying I didn't feel like it played as smooth as Knights of the Old Republic for some reason. Also there is no good side/bad side personality meter in the game, you can do good or bad/evil things but it only really effects your party members disposition towards you which can be reversed with gifts. In Conclusion, not the greatest bioware RPG, but the story is pretty cool and it delivers a great and challenging RPG experience.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.6Nov 9, 2011Gears of War 3 is definitely the best out of the trilogy and reeks of polish. The singleplayer was fun and the addition of 4 player coop is awesome. Horde mode was definitely my favorite aspect of the game, it combines a great coop and tower defense experience all into the gears universe, beast mode was also a hilarious edition. The competitive multiplayer experience is also fun, there is a nice selection of deathmatch/objective modes to please most peoples needs. There have been complaints about the gameplay being the same as the first two, and that is true, Gears of War doesn't need to refine its gameplay experience. It is already a unique third person shooter franchise and I don't think it needs to borrow ideas from COD or any other big titles to be successful. It's not a perfect game but it's a damn good one with plenty of polish.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.4Nov 9, 2011This game is great, there is a lot of depth and strategy in the multiplayer aspect, and there are so many ways to play the game from a teamwork standpoint. Sure the Singleplayer is boring but lets face it, Battlefield has been and always will be an epic multiplayer franchise. I have played every COD game since COD4, and every BF game since BF2, and I definitely see the fanboyism between both games, but in all honesty if you are looking for something to keep you entertained and busy for the long haul, Battlefield is definitely where its at.… Expand
Average User Score: 6.2Sep 28, 2011Let me come out first and say how much I loved Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, It was the only game to break me from Halo 3, I loved the graphics, the game play, the weapon customization, and even the single player.
Now let me tell you how much of a disappointment this game was, the campaign felt like Red Dawn on crack and when i finished it I really didn't feel satisfied, what did I just accomplish? What is this series going to do next? Do I even care? Nope.
Now on to the bread and butter, I don't actually mind the singeplayer being bad, because after all I buy Call of Duty games to play online games with my friends and dookie on the opposing team. I was kind of psyched to find out that Juggernaut and martyrdom had been removed, the only two things I really hated with a fiery passion from Modern Warfare 1. I quickly found out that it had been replaced with something far sinister, Painkiller and deathstreaks inc. The game literally rewards you for being bad, it goes against every gaming sensibility out there. There is a very high chance in every match if you start getting a good kill lead on the other team that they will start spawning with 3x-4x their normal health. Great Idea, lets penalize the other team for being good.
The weapon balance is horrific, every class can literally use a SPAS or a machine pistol, so snipers can just bust out a shotgun if they get rushed. Dual wielding should have NEVER been added to the COD series, and its as broken as hell, the 1887's had to be nerfed because people were getting dropped from 20-30 yards away by dual wield shotguns...Yes...dual wielded shotguns. Plus some of the assault rifles are just too easy to use like the ACR, I mean you literally can't miss a bullet, opposed to COD4, where you practically had to burst fire the M4 or AK for them to work effectively at range.
The perk system is terrible, the rate at which you unlock great perks takes too long and not only that, they encourage a very low cowardly form of play, Marathon/Commando/Lightweight setups, Army of One noob tube setups. These setups are used by badkids galore and they even the playing field because theres literally no counter for them.
The killstreak system is extremely broken. I realize that the airstrike in COD4 gave you kills towards your chopper, but it ended at that. That system in this game is absurdly broken, because you can literally rack up 30+ kills in a minute and a half, it's just way too damn easy for one person to get out of control. Predator missle->double kill->harrier bomb kills+gun kills+your kills->chopper gunner, I used this setup and many others used it as well because it was just effective and easy obtain.
The above mentioned killstreaks breaking into my gameplay segment. EVERYONE and their mother camps on this game for their own killstreaks, don't even try playing a public objective game, people will refuse to leave 5 yards away from where they spawn, it literally breaks down the game into a stalemate of campy badness.
In conclusion I think I've been pretty fair with my issues on this game, and the only reason I'm giving it a ONE, is because they came out with barebones mode which doesn't allow killstreaks, only then was I able to see, well at least without the killstreaks muddying up the gameplay, it plays as a very competetive shooter when people are actually trying to win and do the objectives on the map.… Expand
Average User Score: 6.0Sep 28, 2011Though not a flawless game, I actually preferred this to the killstreak whoring gameplay of MW2, also it didn't get released with a slew of game breaking glitches and extreme weapon imbalances. The singleplayer was pretty typical in COD fashion as far as length, the storyline had kind of a cool twist at the end, but the singleplayer isn't where Black Ops really shines.
I love the multiplayer compared to MW2, for the most part the map designs are better, its much harder for a team to killstreak dominate, and many annoying perks have been removed from the game. My only gripe would be the iffy bullet registry at times, and lack of GREAT secondary weapons.
For as many people I hear complain about this game, none of the arguments are usually credible, it's usually player preference. "I can't quick scope anymore", grow some balls and make a real setup, I like sniping as much as the next guy but sniper setups should not be mobile setups. "The guns are broken" Really? The Famas and AK74 are the only two guns that really stand out, but are lame in comparison to marathon/commando/lightweight setups, or pre nerf akimbo 1887's, or even the spas for that matter.
"No more one man army" Thank god, it should of never been in the place in the first game, it just encouraged an already bad community to noob tube even more.
In my personal experience, people who are legitimately good at the COD series, especially those that really liked COD4, liked Black Ops and thought it was a general improvement over MW2
In conclusion If you have not played this and just hear people hating on it, they usually just tend to be disgruntled MW2 pub stompers that were allowed to do well because of how the game was terribly designed, and they were unable to carry over that strategy to Black Ops… Expand
