This is a rewrite. I originally gave it 8/10 but after extended play some problems have appeared. It's still fun and very playable even with the frame rate drops but the sound issues are really bad. For example if I use my melee attack he will make a sound 3 seconds later or you pick up an audio file it wont start for about 5. The fire hawk quest broke for me so I had to reload and do the whole dungeon again because (spoiler) Lillith wouldn't speak after I have her eridium. And even some of the cutscenes are soundless. It's still a fun game but its annoying not hearing all the great voice work which is there, but takes a while!… Expand
Average User Score: 9.2Mar 2, 2014This is THE best game I have ever played. The formula of short days with meaningful activities makes it very addictive. The combat is excellent and spices up the formula of turn based battles with chances to take extra turns when hitting a weak spot of an enemy or dealing critical damage. Excellent presentation and style sells the world. The characters and the various voice actors behind the voices are excellent with realistic dialogue. They are not just JRPG stereotypes but really do act like kids that age. They can be insensitive and awkward but loveable and kind all at the same time. Dungeons are as quick and as deep as you make them. Over powered and want to skip to the boss. Just keep running as enemies rarely catch up to you. I played it in normal mode and got the true ending plus epilogue and I have to say playing it on a second playthrough was worth it. Love the anime cut scenes and lastly the music, its hard to understand but the tunes are catchy and never get old. I really want a follow up story for these guys. Be it anime or a whole new game or even a manga I will snatch it up. My favourite game ever made.

Just dont expect much social integration early on. Graphics are nice (even with the tone down to reduce lag) and the character models are stunning with great looks.… Expand
Average User Score: 9.2Dec 30, 2013This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I take most of it back. Ys 1 was fun and frustrating all at the same time due to its rubbish bosses. But the journey was good and so was the combat. I LOVED Ys 2. Much better and the bosses wern't stupidly designed. Yes they mostly all had to be killed with fireballs but its when you realise these bats things are killing me WAY too often and then think, wait! I CAN STOP TIME and you do that and you win! Combat is excellent, story is awesome (ahead of its time) and I love the characters but not how they get so little mention from Ys1. Ys 3 here I come!… Expand
Average User Score: 8.6Dec 24, 2013I was hooked. Its fantastic. Funny, emotional and the performances (except occaisionally Meila) are awesome. Sam Regal (sorry if its wrong) is always good. He can take a simple a character and make you care for them, always! And im sorry but I cant tell if whoever voices Meila is deliberatly being bad or if she is just bad. Not to say she is awful but maybe she should not read iff the script, because it sounds like she is doing that. I live Meila and she is funny, grats to the actress for that. But she is emotionless. Combar is great but I had to put it to easy mode when I thought (SPOILER) Meilas "sister" as she creamsd me everytime on hard mode. Im focusing now on finishing the story in preperation for Xillia 2. Awesome game with. Great story.… Expand
Average User Score: 6.9Nov 22, 2013From the get go I immediatly noticed the graphics were toned down. But the framerate was buttery smooth. The voice acting and sounds are great! But when web swinging the framerate can drop slightly. The city is huge, populated but not pretty. You can see very far but allot was sacrifised. The web sounds are tinny but all other sound effects and voice acting is great. The combat is responsive and fun as are the dungeons.

Fun swinging and gameplay
Character models are meh
Sometimes the framerate drops though rarely.
For pure fun I give it a 9… Expand
