Average User Score: 4.6May 31, 2014Horrible game, amazing engine.
I flat out refuse to believe they have been working on this game since 2009. The engine for the game? Sure.
The entire game can be summarized in one sentence "Press Y to hack."
The music is **** and the gameplay is like a dumbed down GTA5 with terrible controls.
All vehicles handle like go-karts, and they all handle exactly the same. The motorcycles are a complete joke.
I appreciated the unix nods in the intro and stuff like that but ultimately the game has absolutely nothing to do with network security or "hacking". It may as well be magic.
The story is garbage, complete and utter trite.
The only redeeming feature of this game is the engines ability. There seems to be amazing A.I in the game, and bullet/particle/physics effects are all very cool. They slapped a very ****ty game onto a very cool engine by the looks of it.
Wait for the sequel.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.2May 22, 2014This game gets it 50% right.
The action is awesome, the levels are brilliant, the weapons are badass.
50% of the time you are kicking ass and taking names, and it's **** awesome.
Unfortunately for the other 50% you are drowned in some campy horrible storyline that didn't need to happen. They try to force a love story down your throat, and just stick in some generic big evil inhumane baddy.
The ending of the game is rushed.. they probably don't realize it but a major baddy survives completely.
I would ASSUME they are planning a sequel, and I hope they make one, but the game certainly doesn't really come to a very conclusive end. The final boss is pretty sick though, provided a decent challenge etc.
I'm going to assume mecha Hitler will be for the next game.
Multiplayer would have been awesome too.
I hope they take this game, add multiplayer, add coop, and just make a badass sequel out of it.
This is the kind of game where the sequel, if they put some decent work into it, will just blow everyone away.
It's a fun game, lays some good groundwork for a series, but the **** story takes up too much of the game. I really did not give a **** about any of the characters, there's a secret society bit that just trails off at the end that could have had potential, but they just kill it pretty quickly.
A better ending was needed tbh, considering I'm pretty sure a sequel definitely won't be a sure fire thing.… Expand
Average User Score: 6.0Mar 22, 2014Played through it in about two hours, spent an hour admiring the excellent game, spent an hour actually progressing through the game.
I have unlocked all the extras and played the side ops.
I have played ALL Metal Gear games. I have been a fan of the series since the first MGS.
This is a demo. There's no way this is any kind of a prologue since the entire story is already in trailers.. NOTHING new is really revealed at all.
This really is the equivalent of the MGS demo that came out in '98 but you are paying $30 for it with some extras on the side.
This isn't even the equivalent of the VR Missions expansion.
I would have expected this from a developer that pumps out CoD games, or from EA or some other swindling company.
I'm incredibly disappointed this has come from Konami/Kojima Productions. This should have been $10 at best.
Extras and side ops are just that.. extras. You play ANY game way above the usual amount of playtime you'll get out of it. Indeed I have replayed MGS games countless times now, but when it boils down to it.. at a MINIMUM you should get an hour of actual game for every $10.
This has not happened, we have payed $20 or $30 for 1 hour 30 mins at best.. they originally wanted $40 for this game.
I really wanted to justify this purchase but ultimately I can't. People are saying 'oh but extras, oh but replayability'. It's not a valid point.. I can replay ANY game as much as I want.. most other games have extras or side missions.
Rent this game.. the Phantom Pain will be out early next year anyway.
It's irrelevant how great the gameplay is, the music, the graphics or anything else.
In actual fact I'm quite pissed off that they ditched the inventory system, we now have regen health, there's no codec (super lame), David Hayter is MIA (although I believe this is basically a troll by Kojima), Miller's VA is awful and we badly need Cam Clarke back in the mix if possible. Cool gadgets and stuff are all but gone. No more personal radar.
It's ditched a lot of things that make Metal Gear a Metal Gear game. It's hard to believe Kojima expected no backlash for this game.
Objectively this is a game that's terrible value, but has really great content, but is a terrible Metal Gear game.
It will please people who have no sense of value and who have never played a Metal Gear or stealth game before.
Which is exactly what it's done.. appealed to the lowest common denominator.… Expand
Average User Score: 5.8Mar 1, 2014Here's the thing about Thief, yes the gameplay is incredibly mediocre.
Yes the level design is linear and boring. Yes the ranking system is poor.
But it looks incredible, the atmosphere is spot on, and the stealth aspects feel very much like a Thief game.
Unfortunately there's many remnants of the 'Push X to do everything' angle they went with previously
This game is worth it if you have spare cash lying around and an incredible GPU sitting in your rig. It's not really a MUST have for a PC Gamer, but it's a nice throwback that falls just short of being a very good piece.
Disregard the 10 reviews because this game is nowhere close to being a masterpiece, but disregard the low ratings too because at the end of the day this is still a very good game and a decent effort.
It does feel very much like a Thief game even if some things are a bit off.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.5Dec 24, 2013Great game, you should really play it.
One would think it'd get boring after a while but if you stick with it you'll be rewarded.
Easily the best indie game of 2013 in my opinion. It's a very unique game and isn't trying to ripoff something else and be a 'me too' product which earns it big points in my book.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.5Mar 13, 2013Great game. With the exception of the quick time events this game has everything I want out of a Tomb Raider game. Although it's linear there is plenty to explore, and you never really get that feeling that you're being shoved down a corridor.
The puzzles are brilliant, on par with what you'd expect from Valve or a Half-Life game. They're not outlandish either, nor are they overly simple puzzles a 5 year old could do. They make you sit there and think.
The game has a high level of polish when it comes to environments and just about everything. Tomb Raider again shows other developers where the goddamn bar should be when it comes to this. I never once found a shoddy blurry ass texture, or a bad model. The character models are well done, shapely and are well proportioned for the most part. I can't praise this enough, it does not feel like it was rushed out the door at all like so many games do. The artists took their time and it payed off hugely in my opinion.
All character models are done to a high level of quality, even ones that are only in the game for a handful of scenes like the pilot. Half assed wankers like Gearbox would make the pilot a low poly, low res textured series of boxes. They go full out here modelling the uniform, helmet, everything it's incredible really. Including the planes.
The animation is above anything else I have seen in a long time. The animation in this game is on a par with Avatar or a Pixar movie in terms of being fluid. Everything is smooth and clean. There are no wooden characters like Fallout 3, or moments when you think 'oh right I'm playing a videogame'.
This game is what you put down 50 beans for, it is where the bar should be for video games.
This game makes Far Cry 3 look like a joke in my opinion. It does just about everything better and adds characters that you give a about. It's just not an FPS
The lack of any poor textures/****ty meshes is just such a refreshing change.
The game would be close to perfection if it wasn't for the quick time events.
Industry more of this please. I'll be honest I usually end up hating most games put out these days but this one really brought me back to when gaming was more than just running down a corridor in Call of Duty, or playing some generic shooter RPG with hurr durr memes like Borderlands 2.
The survivor element to the story was done perfectly, it didn't hold off on the broken bones, and harsh survival aspect of it which is perfect. Lara is convincingly terrified along with her friends and again the level of polish makes the difference in pulling you into the game.
If you're thinking of buying this, do so. It's a good length and I promise you will enjoy some aspect of it unless you're the typical CoD shooter fan who can't follow basic instruction. In which case you probably stopped reading this due to your ADD about a few hundred words back.
The industry needs more games like this where developers don't half ass it. There's a high level of polish and dedication to giving the gamer a full bodied experience that isn't broken half way through by lego-like meshes, textures that are 50 x 50 in terms of resolution, or hammy as dialogue.
Talent worked on this game and it's clear to see that.
If you're the type of gamer that pours over details or likes to stop and smell the roses, you'll like this. If you're not into that, stop playing video games. Just stop trying in general because you're not interested in experiencing anything beyond what you already know.
This game has honestly reminded me where video games should be but aren't. There's originality in this, there's something in there for people who want some nostalgia, shooting, exploration, an xp system, and one doesn't compromise the other.
Tomb Raider makes RE6, Ass Creed, and nigh on hundreds of others look like the dog**** they are.
The story isn't perfect I'll concede that, but by today's standards it's on par with Dickens nearly.

Average User Score: 7.5Feb 21, 2013Here's the problem with this game. Bugs.. so many bugs it's stupid. After you solve the bugs you find a mediocre game. First off, there's 2 american planes, the rest are Russian. No european jets nothing
The missions are half baked generic garbage. Not much attention paid to detail at all
This game purely comes down to the flying.. which it does exceptionally well to the detriment of everything else.
The radar is stupid. I have read manuals/forums to no end to try and get the upper hand on my enemy. The way I see it if you're flying the F15 you are LUCKY to get a radar reading of anything beyond 10 nm.. when something comes within 10 miles of you it's a scramble to get the heap of radar system back down to a 10m radius to lock on to the damn planes.. IF... IF you can find them again in time before a missile is launched.
It's just not the reality of most situations.
The missiles.. the missiles. They're stupidly effective.. and for some reason hard to see. On that note everything is IMPOSSIBLE to see in this game due to the lack of proper anti aliasing.
Basically if you enjoy flying jets this is the game for you, but ONLY flying jets. Everything else plays out terribly, inaccurately, and above all frustrating.
This is after playing both the F15 and A10 campaigns. The A10 campaign was fun, but was just shooting tanks non stop. The F15 campaign was an exercise in relying on my wingman to direct me to the bandits as you're essentially flying blind 90% of the time.
The AWACS is useless too, every few seconds it bleats in your ear the enemies bearing instead of being any actual help. Wingman likewise RARELY throw out a 'Watch your six'
Your early warning radar is the epitome of useless despite what the manual says. It is blank 90% of the time when it should be flashing to telling you where missiles are, telling you where everyone is.
Nope, instead it just tells you where the enemy AWACS is half the time then proceeds to tell you when a missile is launched but gives you no idea of how long until it's right at your doorstep.
As I said if you enjoy flying the aircraft, get it for that but do not expect anything other than that.… Expand
Average User Score: 6.0Feb 8, 2013Terrible game.
Probably one of the worst I have ever played. To start with the idea of DFM is terrible, it is just on rails lock them on and shoot. There is no skill to it.
The flight model is a joke, the jets bend the laws of physics to their will a stupid amount. Missiles target you out of nowhere. The final mission is one jet shooting missiles backwards into you. Jets take a stupid amount of missiles to takes down, and it must all be done in DFM mode.
The story is me it's awful. Here's the entire storyline "YOU THE MAN NOW" followed by some russian chirping in "hue hue hue vodka".
If you consider this an anywhere near reflection of real flying just please kill yourself now and do the rest of the human race a favour, the game is a joke. Honestly it's not even worth the time to play it, I wouldn't even bother pirating it.
If you're willing to put aside it's flaws and just have fun, I doubt you will have even that. Honestly I would prefer my time back as opposed to playing this game. It will frustrate you to incredible heights as missiles from not existant enemies shoot you down for not using DFM. I have seen enemy planes literally warp in behind me, and ground units not appearing on the map, even though there's a green target reticle.
Ignore the marketers and other members of the team giving it 10s and 9s. The game is a joke, paying money for it would be even more laughable… Expand
Average User Score: 7.4Feb 5, 2013Flightstick required should have been painted all over the website.
I read the journal of the PC Gamer pilot and thought this game sounded like fun. I was horribly wrong.
The flight model is terrible, you have the owner of one of these planes in the review section telling you it is wrong because he owns the real thing and has compared the two. If real planes were this un-flyable no one would have survived their first flight in all likelihood.
The plane simply CANNOT be controlled by keyboard.
On top of that, you have maybe 2 planes at your disposal.. despite this being labelled a 'free' game you have to pay for it in reality. The website flat out lies to you in some regards.
I can appreciate what the dev team are trying to do, but they're doing it in the most inaccessible way possible. What could have been a userbase of 30,000+ is now likely a userbase of 3000.
Greed essentially got in the way of this game being good. That and the flight model being crap.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.5Feb 3, 2013The game unfortunately has a number of game breaking bugs that currently there are NO fixes for.
On my first play I got to a part where you go up an elevator except it did not transition to the next cutscene. No amount of replaying to that point solved it. I then had to download someone else's save and use the chapter select menu to play.
Unfortunately there is no save function with this method so it was by luck that I resumed where I wanted. I then ran into a second game breaking bug towards the end where on finishing a chapter it would not load the next level. It would just crash.
The gameplay is ho-hum at best. The entire game is just platforming and some monkey level grade puzzles that don't require much thought at all. Seriously the entire game is just platform jumping, the combat never evolves much. It shows moments of brilliance but there's about 1/10th brilliance to 9/10ths horrendously boring platforms and puzzles.
Compared to the previous games they nearly do away almost entirely with interesting combat. They vary the enemies a lot mid game but then go back to the regular ones for the end.
Each chapter follows an identical forumla, introduce new enemies. Then jump jump jump. Quirky part.. chase some main character. Then that's it.
Artistically and graphically it has it's moments. The level design and look is brilliant except for a few chapters, it ends on a weak note really. Overall it's a very PG experience compared to the first one.
You never feel attached to any of the characters like in the last one, they never kill any of them off. As I said it's a very PG experience all in all.
The story is painfully predictable, and fizzles out towards the end with no real conclusion.
I have no doubt EA ruined much of this. They likely forced the devs to keep the overall gameplay simple, hence why it's nothing but platforming jumps. The combat again is equally simple compared to the last game, MB1 all day long.
What ruins this game is ultimately it's mechanics, the lack of interaction with the characters, and game design, all of which are boring and as stale as you like. The cat is the only one you really interact with much.
Sad, I really wanted to like this game, but it's ultimately emotionless. You spend the entire game wondering what's happened to Alice in reality as opposed to exploring the characters or Wonderland's madness.… Expand
