Average User Score: 6.5Sep 8, 2013Me personally, as a former board game geek, would give this 10 out of 10.
But objectively speaking, with all the technical problems and lack of new content, it feels like i can't give it higher than a 6.
It's a good game, I had my fun. But after the few missions there is just nothing more. It feels like an editor would be really useful to make this game great.

Average User Score: 8.6Sep 8, 2013Europa Universalis. Welcome back to my arms. Hold me. Don't ever let me go. The times we've had: Azteks vs Spain, Serbia and Bosnia vs the Ottomans. Japan vs French Colonials in Australia. My first explorer fleet sinking in the Pacific.
The system this game uses is very deep, feels very authentic and realistic. You just can't "zerg" the world and expect to not crumble to pieces whilst trying to hold it all together. The game really rewards the sly player, the bold player and punishes those with no patience.
And while being a very deep game, the whole menu system really is easy to navigate and not at all hard to understand. Give it an hour and all will be understood. Maybe two. And then the game will suck you in. Even the most mundane country suddenly start to feel interesting, you find enemies and friends. And after that, you notice the clock is 5 in the morning and you have work.
But worth it.

Average User Score: 6.3Sep 8, 2013An extremely deep and complex game with a steep learning curve. Compared to League of Legends, which is an easy game to pick up and understand (I am 2000+ hours in LoL), this game is pretty tough to learn straight from the start.
If you can get over the steep learning curve (the only reason I am giving it a 9 and not a 10), you will find a really wonderful game.
Graphics: Top Notch
Characters (Variety, design, voice acting): Top Notch
Items (Build possibilities): Top Notch
User Interface: Top Notch (really extremely well made)
Spectating (Tournaments, friends): Top Notch (A real delight to be able to buy a ticket for a tournament and watch it in the game engine, pick your own commentators, who's camera you want to follow etc)
Words can't describe the genious of it all. Also, all characters are unlocked from the beginning. All you need to buy is cosmetics for your favourite champs.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.1Sep 8, 2013Did not enjoy it. I really tried hard to like it. But no. I played games like this on my Commodore and Amiga, but this game just has not evolved at all. Those games were good in the late 80's and maybe early 90's.
And the most important part: did I have FUN while playing? No. I just did not.… Expand
Average User Score: 4.0Sep 8, 2013Well, this game is just one enormous let down.
How are they allowed to release a game in this state? Just bought my high end computer, and I must admit: this game beat it.
In campaign map (late game, most of map visible due to trade everywhere) I keep dropping down to 18-24 fps. Sometimes down to 2-7 if I end the turn.
And should I mention end the turn? I often go away to do something else for a couple of minutes and come back, only to find it still running.
AI. Don't get me started. I played a game against my friends kid today (9 years of age). He put up a better resistance than the highest AI setting. Incredible.
EVERY battle: I march towards enemy move 2x2 horse units out on both his flanks his entire army just starts running around in circles until it forms a blob because AI doesn't know what to do I charge from all directions routing him instantly. Unless he just separates his army in 2 parts: archer blob and spear/sword blob making my cavalry happy, but me extremely bored.
Sea combat: just autoresolve. No need to play it, most of it is just luck of the boarding-dice. Just board and hope his ship is the first to catch fire. And also, that your entire ships crew doesn't decide to miss the enemy ship and jump into the water and drown. And if u have more ships than him u stand a greater chance of losing, because your other ships will block eachother from being able to board. Even if u just send 1 ship for 1 ship, somehow 8 out of 10 ships just stop next to the other ship and refuse to board.
For the love of Mars, Jupiter and Juno, I must stop here. I could write so much more. I could fill pages upon pages with information of how this game is a fail of gargantuan proportions. But I will not. I will just.. Leave it.
Back to Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV. CA needs to learn from Paradox. How to actually improve your game series over time.
