That said, I reallyI went into this movie with modest expectations due to the criticism from others about the comedy portion of the movie. That said, I really liked this movie. This is my favorite Thor movie so far. They still are all seriously flawed. I thought the comedy was done well. There were some truly funny moments. The good part of Thor is they allowed him to be Thor with his powers throughout the movie. However, I was generous and subtracted only 1 star for taking Thor's hammer away from him for 95% of the movie. This isn't a spoiler since they do this at the beginning. Would it kill Hollywood to let Thor have his powers and his hammer during an entire movie? If they do one day, it will become a Thor blockbuster movie. I must say Cate Blanchett was spectacular as the main villain in the movie. She should get an Oscar nod for this. She looked like she enjoyed playing as Hela. Minus one star for not having enough of her in the movie. She won't get the Oscar nod since they didn't give her enough time in the movie. They get a great villain and then underutilize her. Shame on you Hollywood.
Jeff Goldblum does another great job at the movies. He was a lot of fun to watch as he ruled as supreme leader and Tessa Thompson was excellent as the brooding Valkyrie who needs her passion roused to find herself again.
One day, I would like to see Marvel and Hollywood make a serious Thor movie. Just recreate the story from one of the classic Thor comics and run with it. Is it that hard to figure out how to draw Thor's legions of fans to the theaters over and over again??? I enjoyed this movie, but would not repeat while in the theaters. And of course go see it at a genuine 70 mm IMAX theater if you want to truly be treated to a great movie experience!… Expand

MyI cautiously got excited to see this movie. Of course, I watched the Final cut version of Blade Runner with my son 2 days before. My anticipation increased when I saw overwhelming critic ratings, but I only read one review ahead of time. I was worried that too high expectations would result in my being disappointed with the film. I did note that the film was 2 hrs and 40 minutes long so I prepared myself for a long movie. The obvious place to see this film was the IMAX at the MN zoo which has a true 70 mm screen (97 ft high!!!) and the most awesome sound presentation that I have ever heard.
I'm happy to say that I was not let down by my high expectations. I loved the story, visuals and sound track of Blade Runner 2049! The movie plays like a mystery/detective story and keeps the audience immersed and thinking about what they are watching. This movie may not be for everyone since there are many scenes with no talking as it follows the protagonist, detective K (played well by Ryan Gosling), while he works the clues and moves around the futuristic world. Just sit back and enjoy the visuals and music score during these scenes. It is so nice to see a movie that is built around an intricate story with character development and not just how many chase scenes they can string together. Hollywood are you listening??? Blade Runner 2049 does a great job stitching the special effects into the movie to complement the story rather than vice versa. Be sure to watch the original Blade Runner before going to see this movie. The stories are linked and you will be doing yourself a disservice otherwise.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.4Mar 5, 2017This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My son and I left this movie feeling somber and depressed. Granted, I like Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart performances. They did the best they could do with the content. The movie is dark, brooding and rather slow during the middle half. It seems as though the entire purpose of the movie was to say goodbye to 2 people. So it portrays them as old, weary and ready to fissile out. Personally, I prefer to see my favorite characters in their prime and going out with a bang rather than worn out and beaten down at the end. The girl had nothing to say for most of the movie which makes it hard to relate to or care for what happens to her. I like to have fun when I go to an X-Men movie and this was far from that. It's too bad that the movie couldn't be fun and then killed off my favorite characters. Unlike other X-Men movies, I hardly expect that I will want to see this movie again. I guess I had too high expectations for this film.… Expand

This was one of the few movies that I thought used 3D well. I am not a big fan of 3D. It took it's time developing the main character and wasn't all special effects laden action like most comic based movies. However, I would have liked to see more different kinds of magic. Rather than come up with a large variety of magic spells, they just kept repeating the spells that you had already seen. They should have given Mads Mikkelsen as the villain more screen time. He is a great presence in all of the movies that I have seen him in. I also liked Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange.
Strange spends most of the movie adjusting to his new role. I'm excited to see the next Strange tale now that he has embraced his role. I think this character has a lot of potential. There are 2 separate additional scenes at the end of the movie. The 1st after the cast credits is only targeted at humor. The 2nd after the film credits sets up the sequel. I'm skeptical about their chosen sequel plot and the character motivations behind it.… Expand

It appears that Disney feels that you can't restart the Star Wars franchise by bothering to develop interesting characters to set the stage for the next 4 movies. Instead, they were too busy setting up the next special effects scene. They better get it right next time or my patience and attendance will wait for a video rental service. I did not appreciate the portrait of Kylo Ren having temper tantrums with his light saber when things didn't go his way. Aren't Jedi trained to control their emotions? He is no Darth Vader. Taking off the mask was a mistake and made him lose much of his mystique.… Expand

There are someThere aren't many movies that have made me squirm in my seat and this one did several times. This movie is not for everyone. There are some very graphic and intense scenes of violence it it. This is basically a story of survival in the 1820s. Leonardo plays as a scout (Glass) with his son helping trappers harvest pelts. They are attacked by Indians and forced to retreat into the wilderness in search of a fort many miles away. On route, Glass is attacked within an inch of his life by a bear, but manages to survive. Ultimately, the company is forced to leave him with his son and 2 other men while they forge ahead in search of the fort. This is not a special effects movie, but a plodding story of one man's will to survive and seek vengeance. Much of this movie has no dialog as Glass is on his own and doing what he can to live in the wild. The cinematography is stunning at times. I deducted 2 stars since I did look at my watch twice (2 hr 36 min). The theater was packed and I was glad I went to this movie. You could tell at the end of the movie that it had an impact on the audience since everyone seemed quietly stunned as they filtered out of the theater.… Expand

It was a bond film and I like BondI read the reviews and went in with moderate expectations based on the criticisms. I was glad I saw it. It was a bond film and I like Bond films! It is my favorite movie series out there. This film introduces SPECTRE obviously which was long over due since the Craig Bond films were concentrated on the beginning of the Spy's career. I found the film entertaining and would rank it in the middle of the Bond pack. However, there are problems with the film.
1st: It doesn't really seam to have a defined plot through much of the movie. Bond is searching for M's Killer and stumbles onto SPECTRE. Consequently, there is no sinister plot that needs to be thwarted that BOND and MI6 are working on.
2nd: All of the best Bond films have a strong villain. Christoph Waltz does a fine job as Blofeld, but you don't see him until 2/3 of the way through the film.
3rd: The Bond chick doesn't show up until half way through the movie. At one point during the movie, I asked myself where are the Bond chicks? :)
The presentation at a true IMAX was spectacular. It is the only way to see an action movie if it is available in your area. Don't be fooled by the regular movie theaters that lease the IMAX name. It is not even close to a true IMAX theater experience.… Expand

Tom Cruise stars as Ethan Hunt in his 5th and arguably 3rd best Mission Impossible movie. Tom is still a Rogue agent and the IMF is being disavowed by both congress and the CIA director, nicely played by Alec Baldwin. Ethan must pull his team together and put a stop to the Syndicate which wants to disrupt the balance of power in the world.
Tom is in great shape for an actor in his 50's and is joined by most of his team from Ghost Protocol. The movie leaves doubt about the allegiances of several main players throughout the movie in order to keep you guessing. There are plenty of hand to hand combat scenes, computer hacking scenes, air, ground and water scenes, and last but not least impossible mission scenes, which of course, is why you are interested in this movie.
Your mission Fan, should you choose to accept, is to go see the summer movie blockbuster that you have been waiting for and have a rollicking good time in the process. As always, should you or any of your friends not agree with this review, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This review will self-destruct in five seconds.
