The movie is set on a dystopian world, where modern & ancient lifestyles cross paths regularly. After the global wars killing millions of people, guns are outlawed and knives & swords are back. 2 men (Josh Hartnett & Gackt) are out to get revenge against the most powerful man in Atlantic, the Woodcutter. Though having initially disliked each other, they are guided by the wise Bartender (Woody Harrelsen) to team up against the evil reign of the Woodcutter. The plot is simple and sometimes predictable, but makes space for a large number of well-choreographed action sequences. However, each scene has a colorful fantasy-themed dramatic background (probably shot on a Theatre Stage) - which can distract some people from all the tense action happening at front. The uniqueness of this movie is it keeps sending a fantasy vibe through-out, you will either love it or hate it!… Expand

And then there was the bonus - Nicole Kidman as well, plus an experienced Thriller movie maker Joel Silver. But all that punched into the equation - the movie couldn't reach where it aimed. It's a hostage-at-house movie, where the family members & the goons are all hiding something from each other. Nicolas Cage is a diamond agent, with a huge mansion for his wife Nicole Kidman to sit around alone, as her husband is out of town making money and her teenage daughter is out partying. One of those rare days, when the whole family is home, becomes far from pleasant, when a gang of masked people barge into their house, taking the family hostage. Though the gang seem to have a lot of information about Nicolas & his family, the heist doesn't go as planned as people start revealing head-spinning secrets one by one. A cat & mouse game ensues, as the family constantly tries to escape while everybody involved try to figure out who betrayed who.
There are a lot of twists in the movie and the thrill stays on during the whole movie. It's good to see Nicolas not in his usual action guy avatar. But the movie still fails to make a high impact and ends up being just another popcorn movie, watchable but easily-forgettable.
Joel Silver could've done better than that.… Expand

Its fun, its both smart & silly simultaneously, it doesn't put too much pressure on your brain and ... it has Rowan "Mr Bean" Atkinson! The first part was funny, but still was lacking the Clouseau or Get Smart effect. However, this part adds the missing edge perfectly and puts Johnny in the race with Austin Powers & fellow Spy spoof-ers (though not a close one yet!) successfully.
Rowan is excellent as the over-confident dumb-wise Spy. The movie doesn't make you laugh continuously, but it has its moments, a lot of them! Johnny is on a Shaolin or similar monastery, refining himself both physically & philosophically, when he is called back by MI7 to prevent the predicted assassination of Chinese Premier. While investigating that (and failing miserably), he finds out that this has a connection with his last mission in Mozambique, which was a disaster and the sole reason for his suspension. Can Johnny figure it out before the Premier gets killed? Is Johnny wiser than before? Does Johnny know what he is doing, at least a little more than before? Watch the movie to find out - won't be a terrible loss, I promise.… Expand
