The multiplayer is terrible, the single player campaign doesn't tell you what to do and doesn't let you shoot at things. I want to shoot things. It's a first person shooter. "Shooter" being the operative word. The only redeeming factor about the game is Extinction mode, and even that only unlocks after you sit through what is a boring "Interactive Cutscene" (Being a part of the game where you can't interact with anything. All you do is run around following a character) where you kill about 5 people. IN SPACE. Infinity Ward, what were you thinking? People don't fall in love with a game where you can't shoot things (If it's an FPS).
You said you re-wrote the engine. It doesn't feel that way. It feels like you took the PC engine, made it shinier and said it was a new engine. Terrible graphics make FPSsses feel like you're not actually there. Good video games immerse you in the action. Ghosts makes a feeble attempt to revitalize the genre but comes no where near.

Extinction mode however is fantastic. An FPS turned arcade mode. Skill Trees. Freeking Skill Trees. I love Skill Trees. It's a wonderful blend of different genres. Real-Time Strategy, First Person Shooter, Co-Op Survival and a few more. I love it. There are some decisions I don't agree with, like the fact that the helicopter takes absolutely ages to destroy a barrier hive without your help, and the fact that it feels like Left-4-Dead but with aliens instead of zombies. But I can overlook those small details.

Single Player: Bad
Squads: Not terrible but could do with a little work
Extinction: Pretty good.
Not worth the price considering only one aspect of it is good. Buying it second-hand is advised.… Expand

At the time, I was very into Game Maker so it seemed absolutely amazing. It still is. The latest remake is the same thing, just more polished. I am a huge fan of Rogue-likes and so it feels comfortable for me. Others who don't enjoy Rogue-likes would not enjoy Spelunky. Simple as. I love the graphics style because it's not too "Look at me, I'm really sexy!" and no where near "I'm bringing 8-Bit back". On that topic, the 8-Bit market has become over-saturated and its not good at the moment.
The levels can be a bit hard and the permadeath situations are really not nice. The music gets on my nerves a little but I can turn it off so I don't mind. It does, however, crash when I tab out. Every time.
It looks like I've given a good score to a game that has lots of flaws. And I have. But that's only because I enjoyed the game play immensely. It is a very fun game and I can overlook those flaws. Games are about the gameplay, not the graphics style or the choice of soundtrack. If a game is good then it deserves a high score.… Expand
