GrantedThe game adds some nice new features to the series and it is actually pretty fun when it is working which is roughly 60% of the time. Granted my GPU memory is only 2Gb but I meet the recommended system requirements by far and my issues don't seem to be related to my hardware. I still get a lot of input lag and the frequent crashes wouldn't be quite so bad if they didn't make you lose all of the progress for that round. I spent 45 minutes playing a round trying to level my pistols and I got maybe 12 pistol kills which was enough to unlock more add-ons for that pistol as well as a new pistol. In literally the last minute of the game, it crashed and I lost all my progress. This happens about 1 in 3 games to 1 in 4 games and is very frustrating. My score will be based on all the technical problems that have not been addressed properly since the beta.
Single player hasn't grabbed me in any special way and so far its been almost pulling teeth to play it. I'd like to see them make missions that teach you how to use all of the classes and the vehicles instead of throwing a very derivative story at you. Put us through boot camp and teach us the strategy proper way to utilize the environment and items. I am glad that they included the test range where you are able to try out all of the vehicles and all of your unlocked weapons on some static and some moving targets. It is definitely a nice addition to those new to the series.
As far as the multiplayer goes, it's Battlefield and all the good and bad that people are familiar with are present. I was hoping that by now, people wouldn't be able to magically enter and exit their vehicle making it a little harder to take drivers and pilots out when they are standing next to a vehicle one second and magically appear inside the next. When you're trying to take out vehicles with jets or helicopters, it can be tiresome to do pass after pass while the drivers simply hop out in a half a second and repair their vehicle while you wait for your weapons to reload.
Things do feel a little better balanced than BF3 and they removed the horrible suppression feature that got out of hand in BF3. Well, it is actually there still but people are not as affected they were and the only time you get very suppressed is by LMGs.
The maps are my major gripe with the game. I just don't care about any of them. Usually there is at least one that is just great and everyone plays but none of the maps have that special something and in fact I very much dislike a few of the maps. I really enjoyed the maps in Battlefield 3, especially when they included the BF2 maps in DLC. If they don't offer some good new maps in DLC very soon, I can see the game getting old very quickly.
Overall it's fun and they've added somewhat enough that it doesn't just feel like Battlefield 3.5 even though at times it does. This series seems to be moving closer to the console market in every new iteration. You level much faster in this game than Battlefield 2 and maybe even Battlefield 3. I really hope they don't turn the series into Madden or COD with a new throw away game you play for a few months and wait for the next years game. If the game worked a little better and had less frustrating issues, I'd probably give it an 8. If this game doesn't release some good DLC soon, I can't imagine the game will have the staying power that Battlefield series has had in the past.… Expand

I had a level of excitement I rarely have in games from the first mission to the last mission. However, when I finally finished the final mission I just expected...I don't know...more. It's really hard to expect more from a game that gives you so much but the game felt like a jack of all trades, master of none. everything from gun play, driving, flying, and sports all felt solid but none of them felt great. None of them felt like something that would be easy to learn and hard to master. Its like everything was fun to do but I always wanted a little more.
My main gripe with the game was I felt like there was too much hand holding. The game was easy and rarely did I fail any missions. I suppose turning off the gun locking system could somewhat alleviate that but that't not how I want the game to be harder. I wish the game let me figure out how to do my own heists. Maybe walk me through the steps needed to plan it or to let me just try to go in guns blazing without a plan. Every step of the way you're just walked through how to do everything you need to. It wasn't that the heists weren't fun because they were. but like a lot of other fun games, they leave dreaming about how it could have been done better.
My second gripe is that the city is huge and the story doesn't really let us get to know it like I had hoped we would. I hoped that more places would become familiar to me around the map. The map is so full and detailed that as the major character in the game, I wanted to really get to know it better. I do like the fact that the game doesn't force you to do much and lets you experience certain aspects of the game if you want to, but sometimes you really have to go out and look for things to do by yourself.
My third and final major gripe is the story or more the end of the story. The story is fairly well written and the scripts were great and entertaining the whole time but things start to feel a bit rushed by the end and one of the final mission options is surprisingly anticlimactic. The other two options make absolutely no sense to the story line or the characters and frankly make a certain characters development pretty irrelevant by the end.
I only wanted to share my gripes in this review because there is just too much to go over for all of my likes, Despite my gripes, this is a great game and I had a lot of fun playing through it. The music, the characters, the writing, the gameplay, the world, and just about everything else is just solid. I had no issues with bugs(although I did seem to lose a few cars that I thought would go to the impound lot) and the framerate was smooth. For some of the truly great games out there, by the end you want more but at the same time you feel complete. With GTA V I wanted more and more but I didn't feel complete.
Who knows what DLC will bring to the game and I honestly hope R* plans to support this game with a lot of single and multiplayer content. Obviously GTA online isn't out yet so this review is focused only on my initial single player experience and I'm still anxiously waiting to trying it out.
Its a fun game and the sheer scale will make your jaw hit the floor. It looks and plays great but either my expectations were too high(likely) or the game actually could have been a little better in a few regards(also likely). Either way, it's definitely worth checking out.… Expand

I played the first tomb raider game and II wanted to give this around an 8.6-8.7 so giving it an 8 instead of a 9 would have been unfair.
I played the first tomb raider game and I enjoyed it a lot as a kid. The puzzles were challenging at the time and the gameplay was fun. Hearing and seeing the T-Rex for the first time was just an awesome feeling.
Going into Tomb Raider 2013 my expectations were kind of high. I've played a lot of games since the first Tomb Raider including sequels that were somewhat underwhelming. I think the team brought Lara Croft into the new age of gaming very nicely. The story was done very well and while it was somewhat predictable, they played the mystical stuff out well like the world wasn't naturally filled with ancient Japanese goddesses. Also, getting to know young Lara and watching her grow into someone more familiar was great.
If you've played any of the Uncharted series then the gameplay might seem pretty derivative but in a good way. It was a pretty familiar formula of some light platforming, shooting, and puzzles thrown in here and there. All were done well enough and have a good amount of polish, however I would have liked to see more tombs and varying levels of difficulty in the puzzles. I know mass market games of today play to the slightly more casual gamer, but in the age of the internet, people that had issues with puzzles could have just looked them up. Also, since the tombs were separate from the story anyways, some really long and challenging tombs would have been awesome. I would have really liked a side story that maybe tied all of the tombs together or just had a tomb that took longer than 5 minutes to get through. Also, quicktime events are starting to get old, especially when they're overused and I think this game was slightly guilty of quicktime overuse. It didnt ruin the game experience by any means but sometimes these events just take you out of the game more than anything.
The game pacing was done really well too. I felt that you unlocked things at a good rate and the story kept moving along well. At one point I thought the game was nearly over only to find out that I was just passed the half way point. At about 9-10 hours the game was still a bit short but if they had tried to make the story longer, I think I would have become uninterested in it. This is where I think the opportunity to make longer and bigger tombs with higher difficulties could have added to the gameplay while not forwarding the story or trying to overextend it. Also, I should point out that I only completed 71% of the game when I beat the story so you could probably get a few more hours at least if you are really looking for everything.
Multiplayer is worth mentioning I guess. It does seem like tacked on and I found it somewhat absurd that there are so many DLC purchases for maps and skins in multiplayer considering how shallow it felt. It wasnt horrible and I did enjoy the time I spent with it, but from what I played, I didnt see anything so new or exciting. If you really enjoyed the game I'm sure you could spend a few hours in multiplayer as well.
Overall I had a lot of fun going back to the franchise after so long and I have to say, Lara is hotter than ever. I'm really excited at the prospects for a sequel to this game but my expectations are going to be much higher. If they released a sequel with another good story, updated and improved upon innovative gameplay, added even hours worth of tombs to raid with more rewarding treasures, and even if they got fresh with multiplayer by adding some coop tombs to raid filled with baddies to fight together as well as puzzles that required teamwork and rewarded you nice treasures, that game would be an easy 10/10.
This game deserves a 8.7 for just the enjoyment level. Its not the deepest gameplay but the story grips you from the start and develops very nicely. Its not without fault and I really expected more tombs with difficult puzzles but in the end I had fun and thats what counts for me.… Expand

In theThis is a hard game to review and mainly because gameplay wise its nothing new to the series which some may look at as good or bad. In the end, you realize that you're just going into different rooms and shooting guys in slow motion through pretty much the whole game. There is some on rails parts that change things up ever so slightly but we've pretty much all been there and done that. If I were to judge the game just on all that, it would probably be 4/10. The thing is, the game got its hooks in me and I couldn't stop playing until I finished the game. Everything else about the game is just fantastic.
While I played and very much enjoyed the previous games, Max really became just a badass in this game. His inner dialogue has always been good but this time around it was great. He's funny, dark, serious, realistic, and just a badass that made for the perfect character to follow on this journey. Bald, bearded, beatup, older Max is a character you want to watch. Hes not your typical good guy but in an odd way hes very relatable.
Also, the story and the way its pieced together was done very well. While it was almost a little predictable in some aspects, you still want to see whats waiting for you next. While linear, R* has done a good job at not making you feel trapped in a straight line. The story and characters have a way of making you wish the game could last forever while driving you to see how it ends.
The graphics, sound, music, and attention to detail are just flawless and make you wish every game had the same. The veins in characters arm and the texture of skin and clothes is some of the best I've ever seen. The locations seem very realistic and are extremely detailed in a way that only a few companies like R* could do. While the gameplay is very much the same from the older games, you can really tell that a lot of love was put into every other aspect of the game. I played the multiplayer for a few hours and while its nothing to write home about, its fun and offers some new elements to multiplayer shooters.
In the end, don't play this game because you want an in depth shooter with long lasting multiplayer, play it because you want an awesome experience in gaming following one of the saddest and yet most badass characters ever made.… Expand

While I didn't play the firstNo multiplayer, nothing so innovative and new, but just a great shooter and experience through and through. While I didn't play the first game, I got sucked into the story and was very anxious to see the game through. It is one of those games that you just don't want to end despite wanting so badly to see how it all ends. The graphics and sound are amazing, especially on a decent rig with surround sound. It will creep you out if you're playing by yourself at night but in all the right ways. The story is just done right and everything pulls you into a very deep and immersive experience. By the end I just wanted more but only because everything I was given was done so well. This is one of those rare examples of a game made the way games should be made. You may complain that there isn't multiplayer but I prefer no multiplayer to a weak attempt at tacking on multiplayer to pacify the mindless. If you enjoy shooters, good story, great atmosphere, and a great experience, you should have played this game by now.… Expand

The graphics and sound are outstanding. The controls do find a sort of median between arcade and sim leaning more towards arcade but they feel good and responsive even if too much so. Coming from Gran Turismo and Forza its hard not to have a million cars and a billion different customizations but you do have a fair amount of cars and customization. Personally I'd prefer much more of both in a game I want to play for a while, especially since the game somewhat lacks a large assortment of tracks even if they are pretty fun ones.
The multiplayer is a lot of fun and I rarely have connection issues. Its usually pretty easy to find and jump right into a game. It also supports split screen multiplayer and I enjoy that as an option as well. The game features a campaign and while it is pretty easy for the first few tiers, the difficulty does ramp up slightly towards the end.
In the end its not the best and most full featured racing game out there and maybe it should have been labeled more arcadey than it was, but if you're judging this game on its own merits instead of comparing it to another game, the previous title, or your expectations of what you think it should be, there is a lot of fun to be had in this game and I have no problem recommending it in that context. If you're a serious racer looking for a good PC sim, look elsewhere, but if you just want to have fun racing, this game is great.… Expand

Its been turned into a money making masses game that caters to casual players and asks that people give blizzard even more money through the real money auction house. While its mildly interesting for a while, the people that enjoyed Diablo 2 for its depth and longevity will quickly realise how shallow and actually rushed the game was. As I write this the game STILL doesnt have PVP and the endgame is an utter joke and a horribly bad joke at that. The blizzard I used to respect didnt release a game until it was finished and after playing through the game til the end which doesnt take very long, you're kind of left scratching your head. Diablo 2 had rinse and repeat gameplay but for as many hours as I put into that game, I never leveled a character to 99 and even though I would leave the game for a while, a month later and the game was still fun to go back to. In diablo 3, I leveled my character to 60 in under a week and after hours of grinding without any new levels, they decide to finally add paragon levels which added about 4 more hours of gameplay for me personally. After I solo killed Diablo on Inferno, theres literally only grinding left. No PVP and just no fun. No fun quests to add sockets, to give skill points, anything like that.
If you havent played the Diablo series at all and are new to hack n slash games, I would say its not a bad purchase if you just want some mindless fun with friends for month or so. The game looks good and runs well. The game mechanics are easy enough to pick up and play without any problems, but honestly, this personal review is aimed at people that havent played the game yet and are curious about picking it up as the hardcore fans have all typically played and decided whether or not its worth another 100 hours. In the end, its not the sequel fans wanted or were waiting for in my opinion and Jay Wilson should probably take responsibility for letting down the true fans of the game. Also, while it does offer some fun, at this point I think there are better options such as Torchlight 2 which only drains your funds by 20$ for at least just as much fun.… Expand
