This game is a MASTERPIECE! If you don't appreciate it, either you are not meant for the genre OR you are a stooge born circa 1995+ and you don't know any better!!
The downside to this game is when I compared it to RE2...
There was WAAY too much backtracking. (it was excessively done) due to 6 slot inventory system which becomes tiresome when every new area you discover...you realise your gonna have to run back.
My other negative is the multiple ending attempt... its GARBAGE. Unless you enjoy playing a game and cheating + Walkthrough... you aren't going to see the REAL ending... this is HORRIBLE! IT DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF PLAYING THIS KIND OF GAME, YOUR FORCED TO KILL ANY SURPRISE BY USING A WALKTHROUGH IN ORDER TO REACH THE DESIRED ENDING.
((I got the crap ending which was absolutely horrible because I refused to google search when i was stuck in the game ))
That's the only reason I removed 1 pts.....

Average User Score: 8.0Jan 11, 2015This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first 1/3 of the game was epic and you were led to believe that there was better coming... then you realise it's just a repetitive game with no substance that was dragged on for way too long.
The game can really be resumed into: Run to boiler room to push lever. Oh wait lever is broke so go Get booster pack first....now go back to boiler room...open door... oh wait, you cant go through yet, theres no electricity...go push another lever.... ON AND ON AND ON AND ON..... NON stop!!!
The game got extremely tedious and disapointing, I even finished it trying to see maybe if the story could deliver... but THERE WAS NO ENDING!!!
Were you expecting a conclusion with some talking? A single scene? ANYTHING??? Nope.... NOTHING happens AT ALL.
The gameplay is a serious repetition of going to a room and pushing levers.... I'm not joking!! This gameplay was CHAINED repetitively.. there was absolutely NO deviation from it... As soon as you got to a Lever... the mission asked you to go push another lever.
Huge disapointment for me as the first 30 minutes, you think the game's gonna be so epic.... After the first 2-3 hours... just stop playing, I swear you've seen everything the game has to offer... there's not even a story to entice you... you will be disapointed as there was no story at all.… Expand

It's basically uncharted with a hollywood movie script.

The environment were very boring and unimaginative. Constantly re-hashing of empty buildings with holes in the walls... going down a basement... etc etc

Instead I found a RE4 clone with almost non-existent narrative or even one single "scene" with the main charactor having a dialogue with the main villain. That is the biggest negative from this game for me.... I was left unsatisfied of the story as it wasn't explained or at least given a worthy scene. Shinji is known for making mysterious games which is awesome but at least in RE1 you had a scene with Wesker and Jill or a confrontation dialogue... this game has nothing.
Regardless, I am giving this a great rating because you can tell the creators made this game with passion, originality and with talented artistic direction.
The first 30 minutes is the BEST I have ever scene in a video game... it was truly epic. Even the first few villages it was very very enchanting and the lore seemed perfect. Personally, I felt it got blemished after CH7 because it felt like the last of us(empty buildings, jump through a hole in a wall that leads to another building, pick up ammo, etc)....
Also, there was barely any puzzles like RE1,2,3...
I thought he wanted to make a game for the core audience again???
I felt it was really dishonest promotion. This game IS NOT classic survival horror (no puzzle, only 1st hour has tention, no worthy dialogue scenes).
but what it does well...it does EXCEPTIONALLY well!… Expand

However, they definately dissapoint(they dumbed it down on purpose so as to encourage you to buy a PS4 early, IMO).
Regardless, I have waited and waited for a survival horror game that was made with the 1990s touch with an authentic and genuine feel. This game has it all!! There isn't too much shooting where you feel it's an action game and there is alot of atmosphere, yet you feel it was done very artistically.
I bought it for 70$ and I usually wait for used games so that prices come down but I WANTED TO SUPPORT THIS KIND OF GAME. You can tell it was made for niche audience in mind. There was even a homage to resident evil 1 with the zombie turning his head around in the introductory phase. I'm telling you this to show you that this game is for the thoughtful person that enjoys the little nuances and like to "feel" the game in their head and not just mash buttons. TEW is a game that oozes passion and you can tell it was made with love and has that "japanese" touch.
For those that say that the acting was mediocre, please go watch a hollywood Movie with Sylvester Stallone or start reading books!!! This was done on PURPOSE. They didn't want to create a movie like The last Of US... Instead they chose VERY few words for the actors and purposely limited their expressions so as to make it more eeerie. THIS is actually something that I appreciated! Unlike American games where you feel you are watching a hollywood movie; in this game, you actually believe you are in some sort of Comic book or mysterious horror plot. You are supposed to USE YOUR IMAGINATION. IF they overdid the acting part, it would come out as cheesy or it might actually limit the fear inside your mind(70% is in your imagination because you fear the unknown).
Gameplay wise, it is very simple and yet there are very nice combat features but they are not overdone to the point of making this a ridiculous button masher.
The music, the sound effects, are all well done and the game definately spooks you.
Also A+++ for the introduction... You just can't beat that, Shinji Mikami really delivers unless you are a YOLO who is born in 1994 who thinks he knows everything about games because you are "top 100 COD player" (lol! You guys focus so much on graphics and explosions that you can't appreciate art).… Expand

Positives: - The LORE is the best
- The graphics are stunning, immersive
- The PVE's lore makes the questing less boring
-Crafting is really well done in this game!
- The world is perfectly designed, extremely extremely addicting/enjoyable.
-Can't PvP without paying another 15$ for horse... but your already paying 15$/month sub fee
-PvP map is too big, there are no choke points. This makes people afraid of leaving the zerg in fear of "not finding any action" because the map is too damn big!! It ends up being another Zergfest PvP with massive AOE, Stuns, etc
Sorry running for 15 minutes to find myself following a zerg like GW2 is boring... what's the point of capturing keeps... it's NOT fun. After you've done this 100 times, it's exactly the same as PLANETSIDE.… Expand

1. The graphics on PS3 are horrible!! Even BFBC2 looks better than this. This is inexcusable.
2. The screen tearing is too much, almost every time you lay on the floor on a mountain, you cannot snipe.
3. The game is too fast pace now, it feels like a COD shooter
4. The graphics are so bad you can't differentiate anything long distance wether its an enemy vs a plank vs a rock... horribly fustrating
5. Any screen less than a 45inch, you will be unable to see anything properly(again the graphics are that bad).
6. The graphical FPS, lag is unnacceptable for a FPS game. You will find yourself dying bc of this.
7. THe maps are a AWFUL. Remember Oasis? Forget it, now it's all about walking hallways and buildings, etc
I will never buy another BF after this. Im done.… Expand

The best part of this game is the atmosphere which it did not lose from previous titles... but there is barely any story in this game. The worst part is how it became a shooter but retained the "RE" as a name. As an adventure game with another name, it would have been PERFECT.
Regardless, this is the last title of the series which I enjoyed even if I felt they screwed up royally on having good characters with background stories. If they had done this at least, I would've forgiven the more action-oriented style. But the only reason the action style worked in RE4 is because Shinji Mikami's "touch" was still in the series so it was nostalgic.… Expand

The problem however is thisHonestly i don't mind cutscenes as long as they are ALL about being EPIC(kojima style) and are very important. The problem however is this game has so many cutscenes where there is pointless chatter about technical details of no utmost importance... considering they are 90% of all cutscenes and that the game is itself 90% cutscenes = tedious game.
I was disapointed as MGS1 was truly epic and there were maybe 3-4 cutscenes with this kind of pointless ramblings about sciencific facts. In contrast, this game, the whole experience is like this!!
I find myself being unmotivated to start after taking 1 day breaks.
Also, the game has turned from being stuck in the middle of nowhere trying to infiltrate bases....into a boring action game where there's too much action on the screen going on at the same time... it killed the whole espionage aspect that I liked the most about this series.
I hate developpers these days, they keep changing things that weren't broken to begin with and end up changing everything I liked about the series.… Expand
