Ruining the players eyes is not clever gamedesign!
DS2 uses various ways of psychological warfare like the repeating pewpew sounds by the casters in shrine of Amana. However i feel that they went too far with Frigid outskirts in this DLC which is a pretty large entirely white, semi permanent snowstorm area with a boss at the end and no bonfire near the boss. After spending an hour here (having reduced brightness early) my eyes start hurting and given the fact that you will probably have to replay this area as it's pretty difficult especially on higher NG and if you are mad enough to try and solo it (deisgnated as coop area) and you will spend even more time here if you want to find all the loot..... it's not cool at all to wreck your players health like that.
Other than that the DLC focuses heavily on the enemies ganging up on you. Even larger groups than in the sunken king DLC.
Bosses are alright but Ivory King is no challenge whatsoever as long as you collect all the dudes that help you in the fight (not counting summons).
I would recommend picking up Crown of the old Iron King over this one unless you have already done that.… Expand

I have bound all attack buttons to keyboard keys and use "glovepie" to emulate keyboard button presses with mouse button presses (other programs which do that work as well and there are a few guides on that bu i personally just happen to have used glovepie before)
Only bad thing about the game are the occasional laggers (no servers! P2P multiplayer) hackers/cheaters (even on steam) in multiplayer. If Fromsoft could fix their multiplayer in some way so that lag and cheating is no longer an issue it would get a perfect score.… Expand

The one huge issue i have with this one is they just straight up reused the smelter demon boss fight!
Out of the 3 Bosses that came with this DLC they just copy pasted the Smelter Demon and recoloured him in blue other than that it's the EXACT same thing.. WUT??? It's literally the exact same fight and reusing assets is just lazy as hell! Did they run out of time? Seriously wtf is he doing there again?? I have played the main game so often i just dont want to see the exact same thing in PAID DLC!!!!! Honestly i would have rated the whole thing higher if they had just left it at 2 Bosses!
The new bosses are fun and come with a nasty variety of attack patterns and in 1 case even 2 phases! Doing what Dark Souls 2 Bosses do best. If you enjoyed the Pursuer fight you will most likely enjoy these bad boys as well.
The level design in this DLC is OUTSTANDING! and by that i mean everything about it. Starting with the many traps, the enemy placement (brilliant!) and the ways the player can interact with the environment. You won't see any of the lame shoot-the-switch "puzzles" from the first DLC here! Extremely well done! Probably even better than vanilla Dark souls 2.
At least 70% of the non-boss enemy types are completely new designs and extremely cool bastards at that. The ones that arent entirely new are wielding different weapons that you arent used to seeing and only the Alonne Knights (and 1 other type that is kind of not encountered in vanilla even though it's in there) make a real reappearance (which makes a lot of sense given the context).
Quite a few of the new weapons seem to have some interesting twists and at least one or two are just straight out beasts but again without being imbalanced which is very good imo! Some other interesting items and spells complete the picture of new stuff.
The atmosphere is dense with graphics and audio. Although you shouldnt expect the game to look as perfect as some high end games out right now, leaving your footsteps in the ash next to burnt corpses just has it's own flair. I did encounter a framerate drop in 1 Area transition (i.e. door...) in particular but it seems to be related to loading in the objects in a big open and "moving" area for the first time and the draw distance of that particular area definitely makes it worthwhile.
Last but not least the difficulty is somewhere between cruel and brutal. Finishing this DLC solo on NG4+ took me a lot longer than i am willing to admit (compared to the about 4 hours it took me to get through sunken king on the same difficulty) and i dare anyone who thinks the game is too easy to try this DLC melee only without running through once you know where everything is. (and even when running to boss areas after knowing the way i got a good pwnch in the face more often than i wanted to)
This beast is well worth the money (albeit the terrible idea of copy-pasteing the smelter demon .. why? i dont even -.- the bloody thing can even be skipped! No real reason to kill him in the first place) Not much other places i can think of where i can spend 10 bucks and have that much fun for it in return.
If you have to decide between the Sunken King DLC and this one i recommend the latter.… Expand

Not much room for skillful play because last hitting isnt actually worth anything and creep denial by friendly fire on your own minions doesnt work. The minimap isnt very good and doesnt really convey information such as enemy location in lane because as soon as your opponent moves a bit further away from your teammate (even if he stays in lane) he will disappear from your minimap.
Furthermore the mostly unranked gametypes this game has are ruined by premades stomping randoms - there doesnt seem to be a decent pre vs pre matching. Especially later at night you will often run into 3 (conquest) to 5 (arena) man premades who just destroy random teams over and over.
^The issues above are somewhat fixed with the introduction of curse voice but not that many people are using it as of yet (especially in unranked where people dont WANT to use voice) so its not helping as much as it could.
By far the worst thing about the game is the report system. Basically the losing team will usually pick 1 guy on their team and just shove all the blame on him and ask the other team to report him as well. (you know how everyone becomes trash tier when your team loses.. *sigh*)
You can also get banned for getting disconnects during games (which actually happens a bit more at right now because hirez seems to have server problems at the moment) pretty much if you DC 3 times in 2 days you get a ban.
All of this wouldnt be an issue if the bans would be looked into more thoroughly by a support team but theyre not. And in addition to that if you get banned 4 times (within any timeframe at all ever) your ban will be almost permanent (1year). This is a huge problem as leveling a character to the point where u can play ranked takes A LOT of time and if u want to use all the gods you will have to unlock all of them again on a new account as well (which again consumes A LOT of time OR you can of course PAY MONEYZZZ to speed it up)
So basically banning people is a pretty good source of income for HiRez which is not a good starting point for a fair report/ban system.… Expand

what SUXX! about gw2
dungeons are terrible! - barely any challenge - most boss fights can be abused (e.g. standing max range and autohitting so the boss will NEVER hit you)
Apex predator builds/classes - PVE in this game is legitly ONLY for warriors as they can do everything the best - speedrunners go with 5 warriors with copycat builds. Conditions (one of the damage mechanics) are worthless in PVE becuase there is a very small max cap of condis a boss can have on him at any point in time which makes more than 1 condi class instantly worthless (besides conditions being generally inferior to warrior damage) (did i mention this game has open world mass events with 50+ players humping 1 boss? yea pretty much 10 useless condi players who just stand there afk)
SOLO STORY MMO CONTENT CREATION - seriously Arenanet is not adding any MMO content (like more group instances or anything multiplayer really..) but is actually adding SINGLEPLAYER STORY CONTENT?? WAT? it's a MMO?
MASSIVE BUGS THAT STILL EXIST AFTER 2 YEARS!!!!! In explicit there is a bug that will cause you to get stuck in place unless you use an emote - this happens randomly when removing conditions or using a "stunbreaker" (this happens in pvp and bossfights)
ANOTHER MASSIVE BUG THAT IS STILL HERE 2 YEARS AFTER RELEASE! Basically the netcode for gw2 isnt very good and if you use any skill that causes knockback or pushback on your opponent there is a pretty good chance that the visible character model of your opponent will just randomly teleport around to its initial location even though the actual HITBOX of the player has been knocked back - this is ESPECIALLY annoying as it can happen right at the time when you kill somebody causing the opponents "downed " body (which you need to "stomp" to finish him off) to be shown somewhere else than the hitbox making the downed player UNSTOMPABLE!
2 YEARS of nothing but tooltip fixes - literally if you look up the patchnotes for the past 2 years its nothing but "added skillfact in description"
NO ENDGAME (literally nothing no raids NOTHING) - there is actually a "funny" 60 minute video of a guy from death and taxes standing around afk with glowing armor titled "Gw2 endgame" . The horrible thing is that this pretty much sums up gw2 endgame.
the WORST most random skillless pvp map ever created that has to this day not been removed from ranked pvp even though the official forums have insane long threads of people asking to remove this map from ranked (just search Skyhammer on gw2 forum you will understand why..)
WORST pvp balance i have ever seen (and i have seen S4 Restodruids!) Pretty much the entire pvp is knowing what builds/classes you autowin on your build/class. Especially necro vs engineer matchup is so broken that an extremely low tier necro player can still beat top engineer players without ANY effort. Also roamer thieves can perma evade (which actually allows them to be TANKS!) + have the highest mobility in the game + highest burst
overall just the WORST development/balancing team i have ever seen. Honestly i can hardly think of any decision the developers have made in the past 2 years that wasnt extremely dumb.(Let me give an example - they actually had a "PvP community coordinator" (of course a woman) who not only didnt play pvp (she was rank 18 after 1 year - as comparison its possible to get rank 10 after 1 day of playing only pvp) and who claimed on the forums that "the forums dont represent the opinion of pvpers - so basically she wasnt playing pvp and interacting with players nor was she taking anything serious that was said on the official forums so what good was this "PvP community coordinator"? i really dont know but thats the kind of people Arenanet keeps employed for their game.
Overall its really just 2 years of frustration and waiting for fixes/changes that still arent in the game. (Arenanets comment: soon! - apparently soon = 2+++ years )
I would give the game 2 points because the leveling experience was nice... BUT I CANT! THEY FIXED LEVELING! turned it into a horrible horrible grind having to farm every damn trait/skill in the game. This change was made when the game was released in asia (*cough asia grinder*) but the complete amount of its **** was also introduced to NA and EU servers.… Expand

Finished DLC solo (no coop) in NG4+ in about 4 hours including dieing a few times and finding secrets + killing all mobs on the way. (and admittedly wasting a few lifegems due to sparse and hidden bonfires) . I would say the length was okay if the whole thing was more memorable but it's simply not.
Most of the enemies feel like you killed them before somewhere else in the game.
Enemy type SPOILERS ahead:
3 New Bosses:
1 of which is a nashandra clone with a somewhat different moveset casting typical hexes which you have probably seen at this point
another one being simply 3 "red phantom NPCs" at the same time (they arent red but have the same behavior)
and the dragon which i guess is actually the only real new boss and who is a good challenge due to his lack of blind spots and his tendency to fly even when in melee (can you please stop running away dragon? just attack me its fine >_>)
new weapons are mostly! not gamebreaking good (which is a PLUS!) in fact they are mostly! low average except for their movesets (and a shield which has some potential but there are other options for shield) There is also 1 weapon that stands out but to early to say. 2 new spells are mishmash copies of existing spells and the other one is kinda troll but not really useful outside of that.
The areas look bland for the most part except for the initial overview (with the DS2 typical you can go everywhere u can see) and the graphics are underwhelming overall in the new areas (a LOT of cement hallways and repeating structures with nothing to them) Come on FROM you guys have shown you can do better! An "sunken" King and you interpret it as Bunker :(
All of the new trash mobs are uninspired (a new number of dead NPC using various weapons like the undead at the start of the game... and a few guys who look like red phantoms and act like them with the only special thing about them being that they fat roll.. LOL NPCs using fat roll)
The fight that stood out to me the most was a special red phantom with ridiculous amounts of hp and a never ending stamina bar of pure pyromancy spam.… Expand
