Either Disney/Marvel has a bunch of critics in its payroll or critics somehowNot sure why the extremely poor average ratings from critics. Either Disney/Marvel has a bunch of critics in its payroll or critics somehow had unrealistically high expectations for this movie. The film in and of itself wasn't any worst than either of the Avengers movies. So an average score of 4 of out 10 is undeserved. It's the typical superheroes movies, which I usually give a 6. But I like darker superheroes movies so I give this one one more point. The batman fight scene against thugs were very well done; better than any fights in Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. The worst aspect of the movie is the terrible editing -- the movie jumps from one short scene to the next in quick succession without logical flow. Even though, the movie is pretty long, there's so much going on (but not many scenes truly contribute to lift the main story) that everything feels rushed and compressed. The Dark Knight was an equally long movie but scenes flow logically and each scene contributes to the movie. So the main problem with Batman v Superman is story-telling.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.7Sep 28, 2015All those "green" ratings must be from people with a crush on Dan Stevens. I admit he was charismatic but that's about it. This movie isAll those "green" ratings must be from people with a crush on Dan Stevens. I admit he was charismatic but that's about it. This movie is absurd. Nothing original here, just lots of cliches and violence. I give a 1 for the main character and a 2 for the first half of the movie which was fine. The rest is a big zero. Seriously, this movie getting a 7+ overall rating shows how the bar is low these days with people. The world is really sinking in a sea of mediocrity. People eating crappy food, listening to crappy music and watching crappy movies.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.6Dec 29, 2014This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is totally beyond me why this movie got such good reviews and ratings. I guess now I believe in the saying that the masses generally have bad taste. The simplest of storeline with moronic dialogues (I mean even for a comedy; they are not even trying), a list of most cliché of "jokes" and a complete lack of chemistry between characters. That's what this movie is about. If you were looking for even the faintest clue that this movie was produced for intelligent beings, you won't find it. I wonder if the people who enjoyed this movie let the eye candies, the light show and the explosions capture them and put them into a trance where their brain is completely shut off. Does the masse love "cheesiness" and cliché that much? Do they no longer wish to find even the tiniest bits of wit or originality in humour? Do they even still know how to appreciate such a thing? One of many examples illustrating the lazy juvenile writing of this movie : Girl waits for guy at entrance of a pawn shop (or whatever) and gets him into a conversation. Guy juggles this precious object that pretty everyone wants to get their hands on. Girl snatches it from him and runs away on foot in broad daylight. I mean seriously. Don't they even try? And people accept this below mediocre work?
I'm glad I only digitally rented this movie. My girlfriend and I had enough of it half way through. I give 3 points for visual and sound effects and make-up. Everything else is a big zero.… Expand

This movie PAYS HOMAGE to sci-fi movies of the 70s.
And it has done a great job of doing that. That's why I loved it. The tone, the atmosphere, the soundtrack, the sound effects, the décor, etc., all make this movie a pure sci-fi movie. The storyline is not perfect but it contains enough mysteries and twists to keep me interested for the entire movies. Those who feel the plot was too convoluted are probably too accustomed to linear storyline found in G.I.Joe, Expendable and most super-heroes movies.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.6Feb 17, 2013This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is highly rated because people have low expectations for this kind of movie. The acting is good and some of the characters were interesting. Two things that we don't usually get from this genre.
However, the outcome was totally predictable AND immensely non-plausible. During the whole movie, I was hoping: "Please don't end like I think it's gonna end. Please." But sure enough, it ended exactly as predicted. I actually hated the ending and it spoiled an otherwise good movie: The guy who fought for .500 during his UFC career actually winning the tournament by beating three world's best fighters AND beating the guy that beats up world's class fighters in less than 10 seconds. Yeah, in sports, fluke can happen, miracle can occur. But four miracles in two nights? PLEEEASE. Incidentally, that guy who won the tournament was the less interesting main character of the movie. The cliché underdog family guy who has trouble getting ends meet. Lame.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.7Nov 11, 2012This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. They had four years to write a good (if not brilliant) story but they failed miserably! The "pre-theme song" part was pretty good and promising but then it was disappointments one after another. Right after the theme song, you learn, which was a bit of a shock, that Bond is alive and well (was rescued by a hot unknown woman, had sex with her and decided to report back for duty). What a wasted opportunity for some good "come back" story. But no. He lost his aim (which he magically, all of a suddenly, finds back at some point during the movie) and was somewhat out of shape. But nothing of that will lead to any consequence whatsoever in the story. Essentially zero character development (the bad guy "Silver" (lame name) and the Bond girl -- which lady was the Bond girl anyway? What was her name again? Actually, there is NO Bond girl in this James Bond movie). So uninspired, no flair, no style, no class. No memorable location (Shanghai, Macau, oh sooo original!) No witty retort or remark by Bond, nor interesting dialog between any character of the movie. Oh and the bad guy dies with a knife in the back, presumably thrown by Bond. No fight, no nothing.
Note to hollywood: we have enough of the evil genius hacker who can control everything and do everything with his computer. It's just a lazy way to avoid explaining anything. He knows where this person is because he hacked into this computer. He controls that house's refrigerator because he hacked into this person's computer. PLEASE STOP THIS NON-SENSE!… Expand
Average User Score: 8.2Jul 31, 2012This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Most who rated this mixed have nailed it: it's a good movie in general but it is the worst movie of the Dark Knight trilogy.
The movie is very uneven. The first half was pretty intriguing with the introduction of the characters and the plot unfolding whereas the second half seemed rushed and rather unimaginative (oh! a nuclear bomb!), filled with plot holes and unecessary and uninteresting scenes. The movie is nearly 3 hours long but I didn't feel like there were much going on (not like in the case of The Dark Knight, for example). This is because of the lack of memorable moments in this movie -- there are lots of different stuff going on but nothing really important or intriguing. There is too superfluous characters: Robin shouldn't be in the movie; nor this lady who turned out to be the evil mastermind (I didn't even care enough to remember her name). The movie should have focused more on Bane, Catwomen and Batman. Robin took way too much screen time but didn't actually add true value to the story. (What's funny was that I was actually surprised that he was really Robin since I said to myself it can't be that obvious.) They put Robin in there obviously because they plan to make more Batman movies. I guess The Dark Knight Rises is victim of greed. Anothing thing superflous, boring and rather stupid: the entire time Bruce Wayne spent in that hole/prison. They should have completely eliminated that part of the story. That is precious screen time where we don't see Batman. Bruce fixing his broken back in prison was totally ridiculous. It is frustrating so little we are seeing of the Bat in this movie. Furthermore, aside from the first fight with Bane, the few other Batman presences were underwhelming, especially his final appearance. Most of the time, he's sitting in his flying machine or on his bike. Bane: another big disappointment. The voice was terrible. I thought it was just me but judging from the comments, I wasn't alone having difficulty understanding what Bane was saying. The development of the Bane character was a major element in the uneveness of this movie. Up until the first fight with Batman, I had this marvel towards the character. After that fight, it seems the development of the character just abruptly stopped. It's as if once he broke Batman, there's nothing left to be said about Bane. Bane was frustratingly under-developed and under-utilized. Also, the fact that that woman was actually the mastermind behind the evil plot and how Bane was dealt with contributed in significantly diminishing the super-villain's "character value".
Finally, a better ending would have Batman really sacrificing himself to save Gotham and have the young detective (Robin) become the new Batman. That would have given the movie a much needed and appropriate dark tint. But as usual with Hollywood, it prefers the perfect all is good and well ending.
All in all, Rises is a mediocre movie by Nolan's standard. He should have waited for a more polished script before working on this one but I can imagine he may be subject to pressure from the business people.… Expand
