Average User Score: 4.6May 27, 2014For all those who might get the idea that this game is basically GTA with hacking.
It is not.
This point is actually important because if you keep comparing this with GTA you will fail so I suggest you to compare this game with AC series for more accurate feeling.
I'll start with the graphics. Although they are not as good as E3 demo, graphics are actually quite nice but there are some stuff like fake reflection that kinda throws you out of that universe but textures and waters are awesome. And by saying waters are awesome they are INCREDIBLY awesome. Seriously, Ubi should promote the hell out of people dealing with water stuff. Other than that graphics are not as bad as people say they are.
I'll agree with music though, it REALLY sucks. I mean I can understand that they don't want to spend a lot of money with copyright stuff but they should've thrown some famous hit songs here and there that will make you feel badass. You may have experienced some audio stuttering so for that I STRONGLY suggest you to do the following:
-Create a shortcut of watchdogs.exe
-right click->properties->add "-disablepagefilecheck" without quotes at the end of the "target" section
Since this is a Ubi game, it is filled with bugs and optimization problems (as expected from Ubi) so I think you might wanna wait until a patch fix or Nvidia update for optimization but by adding -disablepagefilecheck, I managed to get all stuttering to stop and experienced an acceptable overall framerate
The story is actually quite good, I mean it is a little bit cliche but characters feel real (unlike Connor from AC3...god I hated that character...). Also hacking stuff is kinda fun but it might get repetitive over time. Also Ubi could have spent a bit more time and resources to make this game open as hell; for instance by adding hacking option to a lot of buildings to see inside of the apartments. I mean they have that in the game but they could've made it in every building and with random results (sometimes the apartment could be empty or could have several different scenes, like at first there are some couples arguing and at a later time those couples are divorcing etc...). Hacking through stuff to see everywhere is a giant privacy problem, one that could be used to create an amazingly immersive world. Random npc reactions around are good enough IMO so the city feels live enough.
Car physics feels really weak though. Most of the time it is just you driving a carton box around, it doesn't have the "car" feeling to it. Although there are a lot of side quests and collectibles around, it gets repetitive easily and you start to feel that they are just burden to you and skip them. On a side note, I STRONGLY suggest you to try out the spider-tank minigame, because that was THE most fun I've ever had in this game!
AI is really cool. They don't pop their heads for no reason and tactically they do fine against you (flanking and shooting at you the moment you pop your head out). Also I find the options of hacking before and while fighting satisfying. You can use cameras to see the battlefield and approach tactically to it by using different hacking tools on your opponents' technology.
Generally the game is actually quite nice and different, even though it doesn't have that "next gen" feeling to it so I can understand fellow reviewers' disappointment with it but I suggest you to buy this game and play it, you are not going to be sorry, as long as you don't see this game as "The ultimate hacking game" or "GTA-Killer" rather than "an action game in which you use hacking and guns to get around".… Expand
Average User Score: 5.8Mar 27, 2014For me, reviewing this game was way harder than any other game because what you'll find from this game is totally depending on you.
If you have played previous Thief games before and appreciate the atmosphere, the environment, how the game works and how difficult it was sometimes then this Thief game is around 5-6 (at tops) for you. Yes this is a Thief game and yes you steal stuff, hide in the shadows and 3+ guards still kick your little stealthy backside BUT this game is fulfilling those game dynamics in a "next gen game" way. First of all, it is Unreal Engine 3, not Dark Engine so problems about Unreal Engine still exists in this game. Sound stuttering can be a real pain and can really make you feel disturbed. Also, the way sound works is weird in this game. Unlike previous Thief games, in which you had no glowing effect on items or no focus eye that adds sparkles to your enemies so you had to listen to everything, this game doesn't have accurate sound effects. Sometimes, you can't pinpoint the location of your enemies or the engine just leads you to wrong conclusions about your environment. Another thing that disturbed me was all those mini-games and/or actions. For instance The City is not actually an open world environment, it is more like bunch of areas divided by loading zones, sometimes filled with button mashing games just to reach to an apartment and trust me, it loses its charm after 50th time. Finally the story is...kind of reminds you several other games. Characters are not well inserted into the atmosphere of the world and the story itself lacks sophistication or culture that previous Thief games had. Oh I almost forgot, they removed jumping action. You can jump only in certain places, which REALLY limits your freedom as a Thief. But instead of jumping, you have this "sweeping" action that allows you to swoop from a shadow to another, which is actually a great idea and really fun to use.
If this wasn't a Thief game and named something like "Shadow Walker: Man Of The Night", than I would rate it 8+. But unfortunately I have fantastic memories with the previous installments of this series and this game doesn't really make you feel like a Thief. It is both using a different engines that is completely a wrong choice or this game and changing game dynamics, which results in a limited gameplay. If you like stealth action games like Dishonored and never played other Thief games (that actually feels like you ARE a thief) I suggest you to play this game, you won't be disappointed. But please also try previous Thief games to see the difference.… Expand
Average User Score: 3.1Dec 27, 2013This game is a nice shoot 'em up or a nice arcade game, you know with sticks and buttons and everything. If you are looking for a game in which you can pilot a giant spaceship with all those functions, technical gibberish and stuff you have to try another game. The space simulator you are looking for is at another castle. Nice graphics though but I think that's it.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.6Dec 16, 2013I think this is the best thing that has ever happened to me since playing Sanitarium. I promise you that you will drown in an ocean of feels after playing this. Average User Score: 8.0Oct 20, 2013This game is one of the great examples about why there is a controversy going on about games being an art form or not. This game is not a "game" considering traditional definition of a game. This is a first-person philosophical game, and it is not just "another" art game. I know that most of you are completely bored about how some developers suck "games are art" channel dry, but this game is completely original. I sincerely don't know how to review this game without spoiling your own adventure experiencing it but I must say that YOU will want to try out every single thing you can with only 5-6 control buttons and you'll keep saying "how the hell did that decision led to a different outcome" each time.… Expand
Average User Score: 5.7Sep 25, 2013Before starting this review I'd like to mention that I just LOVED Scribblenauts Unlimited. That was the first time I've ever played a Scribblenauts game and the freedom just fascinated me, so that might be the reason why I'm kind of upset about what they did in this second game.
Pros first: First of all, this game has all the good parts of the series: Your only limit is your imagination, there are a lot of different items you can create, a lot of adjectives and funny combination of them. There aren't only a way or two for solving puzzles; you really are free to do anything you want.
Secondly, this game has pretty much everything DC comics has: a lot of heroes to summon and play with (you can also wear hero clothes to get different powers (like laser eyes)), a lot of DC comic items to use etc...
Finally, it might only be me but I felt like they raised difficulty level a tad more compared to their first game, so in some puzzles you really have to use your imagination.
Cons: Game is short. VERY short. I finished most of it in 12 hours at tops. There is a main story but side quests are just random this time and I didn't like it because you don't know if you completed those puzzles or not. Sometimes the game just throws you the same puzzle you solved in a different map and solving the same puzzle 3 times was kind of frustrating. Although you may think this as a pro, since you get the chance to try and solve the puzzle in a different way but it really doesn't matter that much.
Secondly, musics were scratchy. I mean you notice the music and you keep hearing that, music itself doesn't blend in with the environment and after a while this gets to you.
Another negative point for me was that the developers forced themselves into writing DC comic jokes. Even though some of them were really good and like a salute to all those superhero comic fans, most of them aren't even give you a little smile. Also, they tried to connect every side quest with DC universe (you being a hero and stuff) hence limiting the variety of puzzles.
As my final judgement if you have a huge fan of Scribblenauts universe or have no other games to play or have 35+ lying around for a game you may enjoy this game, at least for a while. But if you aren't such a huge fan or can wait for it, I strongly suggest you to wait for Steam Sales for this game.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.6Jul 15, 2013This game's score is solely depends on whether you like mini puzzle games to spend time in or you want some storyline and character development in a game.
Don't get me wrong, this game has some flaws of course. First of all, it is not that long and will not take long before you complete it. Some puzzles are really easy or requires some sort of common knowledge, but Google usually helps you with references. Also some more animations or special items might have been better and finally, this game requires a DLC A.S.A.P.
The game is simple: you are basically burning up things and get money from them and with that money, you buy other stuff to burn. The trick is, there are some combos between some items that requires you to burn them together. For example (this is not a spoiler since this is not an existing combo) burning a sugar and a car will get you Sugar Rush Combo. Puzzles depends on the name of items, the description of items or some pop culture references.
As of today, the game is on Steam Summer Sale so I strongly suggest you to buy it, you will not be sorry … Expand
Average User Score: 8.7Jul 15, 2013This game is AWESOME!
I mean we all agree that MK games are awesome but I've never seen a PC port so smooth before! Graphics are really good and works without any problems. The only problem I had was a little frame drop at the beginnings of each cut scene but other than that, it works flawless. Also the quality of cut scenes are ridiculous.
But we all know that input management is far more important than graphics in a fighting game but the game managed to surprise me with it's lagless input management. All combos work great as if I'm playing this game in a console. Trust me on this: you will be playing this game A LOT!
P.S.: It is also a great way to decide on who will do the dishes next if you are a student with roommates … Expand
