One word description to describe this so called masterpiece of a game. Critics praised the voiceacting and the animation of the characters, I must've been playing a completely different game. The A.I. was praised for their realistic reactions. Um, what? The A.I. is worst than that of most games in the stealth genre. How am I able to stand in broad daylight, less than 50 feet from an NPC, and they can't see me? My stepson watched me play and saw me crouched under some cover, and not covered well at all, and he started laughing at the dumb guards who walked right up to me, turned and looked straight at me, and seemed confused as to how I hid so well. The graphics (so called water paint style) were very underwhelming also. The stealth mechanics don't work well in first person, and very few games pull it off successfully. This is not one of those games. Stealth plays much better in 3rd person view. Wow was I disappointed after so looking forward to getting this game.
There are some good parts. The supernatural powers are cool to use along with the air assassinations that never get old (but too easy to pull off due to the dumb guards). The world is well designed, with a lot of different paths to accomplish my goal. This had so much potential, but in my opinion, it was all wasted due to terrible AI, bad graphics, bad voice acting, bad animations, and the fact it's in first person as opposed to third person.… Expand

I really wanted to get into an Assassin's Creed game to see what all the fuss was about, and I've only played about 5 hours of AC2, so this one was definitely on my radar. Beautiful graphics, great voice acting, decent story, and decent controls, all ruined because it falls into the old gaming mechanic of trial and error. See what used to be ok with past games such as Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell, and other stealth games, is no longer considered ok, as was proven in games such as Dishonored, Deus Ex, etc. Now we want choice on how to fulfill an objective, not just told it can be handled one way, and if you don't do it correctly, we'll throw endless waves of enemies at you until you figure it out. This is unfortunately AC3, where if you don't follow the way the devs want you to accomplish a goal, they make it as difficult and as frustrating as possible, until after much trial and error, you find that path they wanted you to take. Not fun.
Naval battles are boring and don't add anything to the story, nor does it fit properly in the context of the fiction. Side quests are pointless and not worth doing. Eavesdropping mission is easily one of the worst game mechanics I have ever experienced in my years of gaming. Overall the game was not that good. Has it's moments, as the fighting is fun and taking down an leader with an aerial kill is always exhilarating, there just isn't enough moments to make me want to keep playing after 20 or so hours.… Expand

Yes there are bugs, yes there are framerate issues, yes there are some annoying aspects of the game, but overall, I judge a game based on its merits as a game, and in no way do these bugs take away from the overall quality of this game. Best graphics in the Elder Scrolls series, the best streamlined interface yet for Elder Scrolls, and the best overall story. Morrowind had better atmosphere, but Skyrim has the more immersive gameplay. Combat could be better, but magic usage is much better than previous iterations. Not GOTY, but one of the best of 2011.… Expand
