If you want a mindless shooter that keeps you in the action at all times with quick respawns and tight maps, then don't buy this. But if you want a different kind of FPS, that introduces hunting and tracking combined with assymetric versus play, and requires teamwork and skill, then you will like it! I like the slow build up of tension in chasing down a clever monster, others won't like the wait, they just want to blap stuff.… Expand

My main concern at present is that there are not many maps at launch. There is a schedule of one new map every couple months, so this should gradually improve.
* gamers on forums in general seem to have become an entitled, melodramatic, tedious bunch
* this is a free to play to game (which means that it naturally has disparate communities of paying players and non-paying players, where often it is the non-paying players who put the most time and energy into the game, and it is hard for developers to balance the wishes of all while still making money)
* the developers seem to be completely inept at marketing, communications and PR. Completely. Seriously. They are terrible at this. If they have a PR/comms person (i doubt they could) then they should immediately let them go and replace them.
These three things together are the cause of the majority of low review scores. The kinds of issues I've seen as gripes for this game (e.g. people whining like jilted lovers about bad dev communication, alleged broken promises, 3pv, clan wars etc) are not insigificant, but definitely not primary concerns for enjoying the game. Sure the devs can get 0 out of 10 for PR, but the game itself does not honestly deserve any lower than a 7.
Its a fun game to play now, the grind for non-paying players is definitely there (as it should be!!!!) but it is different and I think lesser compared to the gargantuan grind in a game like world of tanks (which I also really like).
Anyone reading this, try the game out for free, trust me it is fun. Don't be afraid to be positive. The negative carping, whinging, over-entitled wailing that the gaming community is becoming infamous for should be ignored, because it detracts from everyone's experience. Just play the game and ignore the forums which are more heat than light.… Expand

But come on, this isDespite the reviews, I actually enjoyed the single player. Yes it is linear and feels a bit like an interactive movie. But come on, this is FPS single player! Its meant to be a dumbed down, atmospheric wow fest, and that's what it is. If you want a gaming challenge with variety, then you really shouldn't be playing single player. I'm not sure what people expected from a single player? BF1942 had a single player that was essentially just multiplayer with bots, and to be honest, I prefer BF3's single player. Multiplayer is better with human opponents, not bots!
The single player format is quite unoriginal - it is a formula perfected by COD, but there are some original bits in it, e.g. the jet mission. Aside from that, my other criticism of SP is that some of the voice acting is a bit dull. Its mindless fun though, and a good place for some light fun before you get into the meat of the game, which is and always was obviously going to be multiplayer. (if you are allocating more than 10% of your score to the singleplayer, the you are really doing it wrong and have no idea about battlefield games).
MP needs little comment it is brilliant. Some of the maps are a bit chokepoint-ish and COD-like, which many battlefield-fans won't like. However, there are still big maps, and the back to kharkand expansion coming, so I see it as providing variety, and its great that there are different options.
A lot of people don't like battlelog, I personally really like it. It is easy to use, can access it from anywhere, and it is obviously going to be easier for EA/Dice to update it than an in-game menu. This is easy to understand, surely? If you are at all familiar with the interface issues on launch for BC2 and BF2, and many, many other games, then you should be happy with battlelog, and how (relatively) smooth it is working. The stats management is great, the social features to encourage friendly competition with your friends are great, and despite that silly destructoid review, IT REALLY ISNT THAT HARD to add friends and do everything you need to do in battlelog. Given it is new and is easy to tailor/modify, I'm really impressed by it. I'd much rather go through battlelog than have to endure the same intro/loading sequence (nvidia! intel inside! EAgames! Challenge everything! etc) in-game menu and music every time I want to play the game.
There are plenty of bugs on release - which sadly, is what we all typically expect for most new release games these days, with only a few exceptions. However, the only significant bug for me is server lag on big maps, which didn't occur in the beta, so I'm assuming it will be fixed reasonably quickly.… Expand

I started playing about a month ago. My first impression was that the interface etc is almost completely bug free! This shouldn't be noteworthy, but given the state of most new release online multi-player games, the fact that it is bug free is awesome. Starting off in a little, weak, slow tank seemed a bit painful at first, but once you get the hang of it and skill up to higher techs, the game becomes extremely addictive and great fun. It is possible to play without spending a cent of real money, but I found that spending a minimal amount (… Expand
