Average User Score: 8.3Sep 13, 2014It's a crime drama in New York, or , so-called "Crooklyn drama". It is a story of a bartender who works in a bar used by mafia to move illegal cash. There are a couple of interesting twists in the story, and sometimes it keeps you sitting on the edge of a chair. But there are many little irritating details that tell you: it is not a great movie. Polish immigrants played by American actors talk with annoyingly phony Polish accent, Chechen mafia speaks Russian as if they were born and grown up in Leningrad. And many others that should not matter for majority of people but reveal sloppiness. Besides, there was nothing really new that would rise this movie above a stereotype. Overall, a decent but mediocre movie.… Expand
Average User Score: tbdSep 13, 2014This is a story about adult brother and sister going to a countryside to pack up a house that belonged to their mom who just passed away. It is a drama with elements of a comedy. While watching it I felt that the movie is somehow immature, and that immaturity spreads over the script, the acting and directing. Very decent cinematography though. Probably the script is the weakest part since it lacks credibility too often. Also, the movie is very slow. I doubt that I will remember it tomorrow...… Expand
Average User Score: 6.7Sep 7, 2014Weird and proud of it, this movie raises questions about art, mental health, talent and absence of it, and many others. Most of characters are so strange that one can't empathize with them.
The seriousness of questions raised shows high potential of this movie but the script does not leave much room to implement it. I enjoyed some episodes but overall I would not say that I could recommend it.… Expand
Average User Score: tbdAug 24, 2014I am usually fond of French movies and have high expectations if critics reviews are favorable. One of few good things about this movie is that it is relatively short: 77 minutes.
What else is good? The girl, Charlotte, is so sweet. Actors performance is decent. That's about it. The movie is pretentious, shot in black-and-white. The script does not make much sense, characters actions are not reasonable. Not much of a story, not much of a form. I did not feel any empathy towards any of the characters.
Overall: do not waste your time and money.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.2Aug 17, 2014This is one of the best spy movies I have ever seen.
No crazy conspiracy theories, no incredible coincidences, no shootings. it is not a James Bond kind of a movie. Just routine work of a German intelligence officer with its ups and downs. But even though it seems slow, its grip on audience becomes tighter. Incredible performance of leading actors, notably of late Philip Seymour Hoffman. What a great actor we lost recently!
The only thing which I found somewhat annoying was that music was over-dramatic where it did not have to be.
Otherwise, close to a perfect movie.… Expand

I have no idea who would classify this movie as a comedy. It is a very serious (if not depressing) drama.
Outstanding performance of a leading actor, Brendan Gleeson who plays Father James. Oscar caliber.… Expand
Average User Score: 5.8Jul 26, 2014Action movie with pseudo-science bubble.
Clearly, creators of this movie were referring more to LSD than to the famous early human ancestor, even though we do meet the latter one. It's an attempt to make a nod to two different categories of movie-watchers:
young people will un-mistakenly link colors and special effects to the popular drug
while some philosophically inclined people will see the parallel between the meeting of two Lucies and Danae and Zeus. Unfortunately, Sci-Fi part of the film falls short.
Overall, quite entertaining but far from the best...… Expand

Average User Score: 8.0Jul 19, 2014What is interesting about this movie is that it was being filmed with the same cast for 12 years. We see Mason first when he is 6, then 7, then 8 and so on until he is not a boy any longer. Naturally, people around him grow older as well. It is as if you get into a time machine. I am not completely surprised: the director of the movie, Richard Linklater, made 3 movies about the same couple with 10 year intervals.
This film is very good in many aspects but it would be even better if it were made half an hour shorter. My guess it was too difficult to cut a piece of work that took that long to make. But there were scenes that would make it better if omitted.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.2Jul 6, 2014Post-apocaliptic dystopia. Our planet gets frozen after failed attempts to stop global warming. Everything dies. The only living people, flora and fauna are contained inside a very long super-fast train which is an engineering marvel. It goes around the world in a loop which takes one year. People are divided into classes, poor in the tail, privileged in the front. Inevitable conflict takes most of the film. There is a big amount of blood and gore. Fighting takes a significant part of the movie. It seems to be real even though there are too many holes and obvious oops-es. But a script in an action movie like this one cannot be taken seriously. Stunning cinematography and good acting. An intense piece of entertainment.… Expand
