Great looking game and great voice acting. The character models and voice acting combine to imbue the NPCs with character far more than any game I've ever played.
Some atmospheric quests.
When it clicks, the combat requires more tactical thought than perhaps any rpg except Demons Souls.
Witcher 2 runs on the rails for far too long before letting you go.
Worst boss battle ever - the Kayran battle seems to hinge purely on luck as to whether your trap freezes the tentacle you were aiming for.
Geralt dodge rolls like a drunken turtle. Upgraded the 'skill' as soon as possible, but couldn't tell any difference.
Worst mini game ever - dice poker - can't even read the dice, clicked randomly to eventually win.
Why can't I drink potions when I want?
Running around trying to find next character in quest with no help from terrible, terrible map (how hard is it to have resident's names on houses?)
Terrible menu system. There's more, but to sum up, don't bother.… Expand

As time went on however, I became more & moreInitially I was very excited & was ready to make Skyrim my all time favourite game. As time went on however, I became more & more disillusioned. The good - world looks awesome, up to a point ( the bad below); defeating your 1st dragon feels awesome; character customisation allows you to create the character you want; soooo much you can choose to do.
The bad - combat is as bad as morrowind & oblivion, with no lock on it's too hit & miss; creatures in the world do not stand out enough & you often can't see anyone/even when the hud is saying you've been detected; after playing for a while the darker textures started to strobe like lightning! in towns, often 2 or 3 characters will be speaking to you at once, often repeating same dialogue ova & ova (particularly annoying wen trying to follow 1 quest conversation in the middle of it all); often the quests you are given just get you killed, & with no indication as to what's appropriate for your character's level it can get very frustrating.
My biggest beef however is, once again, I can't play the character I want. I want to be a hunter, sneaking up on animals & taking them down with a single bowshot. This can work if you see the creature 1st. However, in caves & dungeons or where there's multiple enemies such a opcharacter gets swarmed & killed too easily. Ditto, sneaking around hunting. Too often I ran into a bear or saber tooth tiger & was killed in seconds.
Too many of the problems that plagued Oblivion remain. I hope they get it right next time.… Expand

I have never put so many hours into a game.
as spiritual successor, dark souls lacks the same balance & polish the graphics are an improved, however the character animations are a step backwards - my deprived runs like a legless chicken. the levels in DS were tight, the game was about itching forward. in going more 'open world' ds loses the focus that DS had. o
the combat feels sluggish in comparison, & there's a noticeable lag betwixt button press & action. every time, bar 1, I've died in my short time with dark souls, I felt it was the game at fault, not me.
I score half what I give Demon's Souls minus 1 for disappointment.
Return game to shop, back to Demon's Souls, maybe get Skyrim?… Expand

The designers obviously sat down & decided we have 2 have a stealth mission, a shooting from tank mission, a mech mission... & built the game from there & it cums across as a melding of parts rather than a coherent whole (always a problem with FPS excepting Halo 1, Half Life 1) but that's probably the RPGer in me.

There seem 2 b a lot of PCers complaining that it's dumped down 4 consoles & looks like it should have ful out 5 years ago - get ova yourselves! The visual style is reminiscent of Baldurs Gate & suits the mood of the world - not every game has 2 test the power of the new graphics card mummy & daddy bought u.

Bioware have changed too many things and the whole things feels like a bit of a mish mash (designed by committee springs to mind), and story is no where near as tight.
Support characters are also no where as near interesting (except for possibly Merrill who gave me a chuckle or two). Isabella is a cardboard cut out light relief charcter, Bethany is boring, Carver - what a whining **** glad he died when you choose the warrior option.
Still, once past the negatives, I had some fun with the combat, you feel like a kick-ass warrior, instead of a wimp who couldn't survive for 5 minutes without your team like you do in most RPGs. Often I felt like my character was able to come to the rescue of team, rather than relying on them.… Expand

Is definitely an action rpg (and more action than rpg) so don't expect story lines and NPCs to farm quests off.
