The most intriguing part is the rapid evolution of the cyberbeings as they interact and leave humanity behind. Of course that gets short shrift so we can watch the PC eunuch find himself some more.… Expand
Average User Score: 6.5Jun 9, 2012There are no mind boggling horrors or astonishing new concepts presented in this prequel to Alien. But it does fill in the blanks on the "space jockey" and provides some really wonderful vistas of space exploration.
The story and acting are no better than average yet it still managed to entertain a lifelong scifi fan like me. For viewers without a soft spot for the genre, the film will be a disappointment.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.0Jun 9, 2012The entire plot is based on the illogical premise that the games will keep the masses cowered and docile. But forcing two citizens from each region into lethal combat for public display and entertainment is a sure way to stir the populace into revolt and to make martyrs out of the participants. The random selection of contestants makes the slaughter of children inevitable, which would further inflame the populace. But this is just the beginning of a whole string of illogical plot developments that overwhelmed my ability to suspend disbelief. The film's robotic acting and dialogue make the moronic plot even more unbearable. I suspect that the producers knew they could profit by showing attractive young
actors running around in futuristic costumes trying to kill each other and not have to bother with meaningful content or story. Hunger games left me starving for an engaging story or characters.… Expand
Average User Score: 5.8Mar 15, 2011Definitely worth seeing. Very straight forward premise: combat marines react to sudden alien invasion. "What are these things? We gotta kill these things. How do you kill these things? " Refreshingly, there's no attempt to reason with the threat. The action sequences are outstanding and plentiful. The dialogue is pro Marine Corps and endorses their suck it up and get it done philosophy. This movie is a slap in the face to Obama's "let's talk about it" , do nothing diplomacy. No wonder the critics hate it.… Expand
