Well the creators of Fresh Off The Boat sure took a huge gamble and it paid off. The premise is simple. Asian family moves from Washington to Florida and has to adjust to an almost all-white suburban neighborhood but it's the characters within that family itself that elevates this comedy to great heights. Even though the show plays off of a myriad of Asian stereotypes, the writers ultimately concocted a blend that mixes other cultural stereotypes and tropes to deliver 30 minutes of comedy gold while still managing to maintain its heartwarming elements. Also it goes without saying that the mother played by Constance Wu has, apart from a less than believable typical Asian accent, the best comedic timing on the show and dare I say compared to a lot of other comedic actresses on network tv out there right now. She's probably the reason why I keep tuning in every week too.… Expand

There were shocks that left you reeling for days, more complex and layered story lines than before and occasional shifts in settings from the same ol' prison we've come to know and love but that was really what would necessarily be expected for a show that was one year in the making.
What took quite hard to get used to was the absence of a Piper-centric storyline with the entire cast of characters now coming into play but thankfully that hasn't compromised the true essence of the show. It still retains the same charm and wit. It's sharp and edgy and takes dramedy to a whole new level yet again.
As I would commend the writers for keeping the story fresh and raw, the cast have also done a stellar job this outing with particularly Taylor Schilling (Piper) being the standout once again even when her role has significantly taken a back seat throughout. She has excellent comedic timing and her dramatic chops shine through once again as evidenced by the first episode of the season. The other person who also manages to captivate the audience with her performance, I would say, would most definitely be Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes) who captured the level of crazy almost perfectly.
I'm certain that this show is poised for more accolades come awards season. It has been a travesty that they were evidently missing from last year's circuit since this show has all the makings of what TV shows ought to be. I'd recommend anyone who hasn't got themselves on this binge-watching wagon already to get a-hopping on the first season because this show is simply unmissable.… Expand

Perhaps because I'm a major sucker for this kind of premise. The drama every week was unnecessary though. You can't root for most of the contestants because most of them have been painted really badly by the editors (knowing how reality shows go) or maybe this pick of contestants are just an awful bunch with awful characters. The 1 week time cap on each episode is ridiculous but getting to the end where the homes are revealed is the main reason I tune in every week. The transformation is unbelievable and I loved every minute of it. In fact, seeing who has to go home each week leaves you in suspense right till the announcement because all the contestants are just really talented.… Expand

I have never been compelled to start an account with that site but after hearing a lot of rave reviews for this show, I decided to give it a shot. Now, not only am I hooked, I have become a die-hard fan in every aspect possible. The show embraces and showcases originality from start to finish. With a premise that has an all-female cast, most of them unknown, it gives a breath of fresh air to the usual staple we get on network TV these days. On top of that, this unknown cast is beyond talented. It is a remarkable show that I hope does not end up going down the route of lacklustre plots in future seasons and continue bringing to the table fantastic story lines that keep you on the binge-watching bandwagon for long. Also, kudos to them for bringing women in TV shows to the forefront. It may be set in a women's prison but it does not stop short of showing a variety of women from different backgrounds, skin colour and sexuality.… Expand
