Ultimately, I decided to go with a 7 because I want to leave my personal expectations out of it. But I think Destiny fails in marrying a lot of the gameplay elements that it's trying to bring together. In almost every case you can say to yourself "I see what they were going for here" but those aspects generally all fall short.
The Borderlands loot hunt, the rpg progression, the mmo hub city/shared world all sound like they should make for an amazing new experience but you've probably already played much better versions of all of these things. The loot is few and far between, the progression is linear and basic, and you can't communicate with anyone you see unless you party up with them (limited to 3!).
I think all of that may have been less troublesome if it had been tied together with a Halo-esque story but that is conspicuously missing as well. The game does deserve a 7 since it's an average shooter otherwise but I am very disappointed that Destiny didn't manage to deliver the incredible new experience I was hoping for.… Expand

HoweverPart of me wants to say that what Level-5 has done in Ni No Kuni is innovative. That it's an entirely new and unprecedented concept. However another part of me knows that this is the game that Square was supposed to make one day. It has everything that made me fall in love with video games in the heydays of Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger, plus all the right elements of a modern day rpg. The relatability of this game's simple and heart warming story vividly throw into focus everything that is wrong with the convoluted and downright bazaar themes of other modern JRPGs. There are no spiky hair cuts, feminine men, or ridiculous costumes to be found here. Just good old fashioned fun and narration wrapped in a visually striking bow.… Expand

I dumped a ton of time into D2 and LoD when I was younger and I still fire it up every once in a whille to this day. So needless to say, I was salivating to play D3 on day 1. The first 10 or so hours seemed fun but very shortly thereafter I could tell that something didn't feel right. The vendors and blacksmith never felt like they were selling you level appropriate items and the stuff you find is useless junk. So finally I broke down and bought items from the gold auction house. All of a sudden, I was steamrolling through the monsters with little resistance. This sucked all of the fun out of the game. There is no sense of accomplishment or excitement when purchasing your gear online. The ah is at the core of this game and it has ruined the entire Diablo experience.… Expand
