Average User Score: 4.8Jun 27, 2014Transformers age of extinction is for sure better than the second one,it is also the definition of a dumb ,ridicoulous, stupid, loud and senseless but otherwise fun and entertaining popcorn action flick ,with writing of a child, explosions of the michael bay's style and an overall package that is HOLLLY HELL LOOOOOOOOOONG.
The story is like somebody like michael bay came up to me ,while i was playing with transformers toys and said"hey want 50 million dollars, just write the most cliche, cheesy, stupid story with careless characters who can't joke for **** and make it looooooooooong".Seriously michael bay 3 hours of this nonsense is more than i can stomach ,think back of wolf of wall street, imagine if it had bad writing and giant robots and change leonardo dicaprio to mark wahlberg and voila !Mark Wahlberg is a significant improvement over Shia Laboots, and Stanley Tucci brings the only good humor in this movie, and even he gets turned into John Turturro's character in the third act,Nicola Pelts is Megan Fox 2.5 ,dammn she was hot though, her acting not so much,Jack Rennor was awful and the whole "father despises her daughter's boyfrined"family cliche was one of the most cheesiest i've witnessed in my life, the whole dialogue and the story is just like that.Autobots and the other robots are actually very much full of life and actually have some damn personalities unlike humans, optimus is a strong leader as always voiced by wonderful Peter Cullen,Bumblebee's always very cute,Hound is a fatboy who you don't want to mess with,Crosshairs is a badass sharpshooter and Drift is an honorful samurai, they all come together to create the best autobot team we've had in this franchise, and Lockdown is the most badass villain we've had too,his ship is one of the best designed ships i've seen in movie history, and the whole scene were the humans and autobots are stuck exploring it was ,very riveting and surprising at every turn.
The action ,well when it's not always about 56 million tons of fireworks blowing up,is really fun and very cool, the fights are nicely choreographed even though sometimes they are a bit shaky, when autobots come and fight decepticons it feels very satisfuing ,especially when they utilise each others' key abilities and work as a team ,hell even the good old Mark Wahlberg put up a good fight with his alien gun, that's something i admire and it already makes him better than Laboots.Michael Bay for all his flaws is still a very competent director of action,if he just stops the fireworks and gets down to robot vs robot bussiness he can reach his long lost level of action like in the rock and bad boys 2 ,the only great movies of his.The much advertised dinobots however lacked screentime and i saw only 4 out of 5 of them ,Grimlock ,Sludge,Snarl and Swoop where the hell was Slag ?however seeing Optimus charge while riding a fire breathing dinobot is just plain BADASS.I have to applaud the IML effects guys for delivering such a live, believable cast of robots, with superb, near perfect animations, and a stylish visual look,as well as sound, the weapons sound cybertronian and pack a punch ,robots sound weighty like they should ,this of course combines to make the most action packed and visually glorious tranformers movie yet. However there are a ccouple of times were the action gets boring mainly becuase of the 2 and a half hour mark, and endless amount of explosions, also some very shaky camera human fights.overall it's still fun, just too long.
Put aside the story filled with cheese, lack of logic, and a big lack of in depth human characters and some clunky action in third act and you a movie that fullfills an avid action fan's needs and very much satisfies a transformers fan, i however am somewhere in the middle ,that's why i give it 6 out of 10.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.4Jun 6, 2014Edge of tomorrow is without a doubt one of the best and most unique sci-fi action movies of all time ,like minority report, groundhog day,and aliens,it proudly takes the seat between them by offering a great story with colorful characters, awesome premise and a pace that would otherwise most movies completely fail.
Now the story and the plot hook you right away, because we actually get to feel how Tom Cruise's chacter William Cage is so scared of the battle, being just a media reporter and a PR guy,he is sent straight into battle and within 5 minutes gets killed,he though comes back to life as he finds out that he is reliving the invasion day, where humanity fights against alien organisms. The story might seem a little conveluded or simplistic but it works for the movie like this, most of the time-travel movies tend to confuse me,because it's time-travel the confusion is inevitable, but the director Doug Liman makes this movie's repetetive nature completely fade away, the cuts and the editing are brilliant without them ever making you feel like :what the hell just happened?
The cast does a fantastic job at their roles too,it's the first time we've seen tom cruise actually die hundreds of times and constantly being scared of the battle, you cope with him,you understand him as it is a human instinct to be afraid of the battle.Emily Blunt's character Rita Vrataski otherwise known as full metal **** lives up to the name, being a complete alien-killing badass, that occasionally offers her own set of emotions, finally a female character that's not a damsel in distress, both Tom and Emily really fit together as a pair and reminds me of the same characters in the book ALL YOU NEED IS KILL,which this movie has adapted, hell their relationship begins with the same sentence as from the book, which i adore btw.Bill Paxton was hilarious ,some of the other characters did need some more work, but that's only a minor complaint and they'e pretty likeable too.all in all fantastic cast, terrific writing, makes a great adventure .
and boy what an adrenaline-packed action adventure it is ,the director Doug Liman completely utilised this movie's premise to deliver some of the most intense alien combat this year on par with godzilla. The exo-suits are fast, mobile, agile and badass.Emily Blunt's character teaches Tom Cruise how to fight better and his development from scared **** PR dude to master chief is a sight worth seeing.Aliens themselves look awesome, this is what would have happened if the aliens from "ALIENS" smoked a looot of cocaine ,yeah. At first Tom Cruise's death scenes are downright brutal ,but he learns from his mistakes, and gets one step closer to defeating the enemy, the final showdon may upset some people as it doesnt quit payoff and the first two acts feel a lot better, but if you have chance to see this movie definetely go see it,it is like i said one of the best sci-fi flicks out there, don't underestimate it.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.5May 26, 2014x-men days of future past is an amazing addition to a great series, director Bryan Singer returns as the triumphant director of X1 and X2,and what we get is an inrcredibly human, terrificly acted and brilliantly shot story, that just confuses quite a lot for the people that have seen all previous films including the prequels.
The performances were excellent from everyone ,yes some do get more screentime than others, but they are also so well developed and heartful, that it's hard not to feel attached to these characters, wolverine is again great ,Hugh Jackman really nails his role ,i can't think of anyone else that will do it better than him,James Mcavoy and Michael Fassbender deliver their best performances as proffesor x and magneto,Jennifer Lawrence as mystique was incredible,Evan Peters who plays quicksilver is absolutely awesome, even though he's got few scenes in the movie he completely steals the show in them. It's a great ensemble that goes from small characters to big ones ,but it constantly manages to make them more and more apealing and relevant to the story. The story itself is really good,if not a little bit complex and illogical which is unfortunately it's only weakness, see the story is handled extremely well ,the general feel ,the mood ,the atmosphere, the characters,time-travel element is handled mostly well, and i say mostly only because the events that happen here don't really make sense to the other films ,without spoiling anything expect to be asking questions left and right and getting really twisted about how certain things work out and how they fit into the general story of x-men.
What Bryan Singer doesn't completely nail in his story department ,he does in action ,needless to say it's intense, suspensful ,badass, spectacular and even horrifying at times. The stand out scene for me was quicksilver set piece ,remember matrix's introduction to the groundbreaking slo-mo bullet time ,well this movie takes that onto a WHOOOOLLLE new level, involbing quicksilver running at a killer speed in slow motion dodging bullets ,hitting guards, climbing on walls,in a beatifully ,visually and choreographically stunning set piece that will blow your mind, accompanied by some great music by Jim Croce, the rest of the action is just as good if not a bit repetitive,if this movie would solely be judged by the action i'd say it delivers and then some.
The movie is a wild ,emotional ride ,that is done with a huge respect to the franchise, further develops characters and gives our eyes a true eye-candy,it's one of the best films of this year,it's definetely worth watching and even if it does confuse a little with it's time-travel structure,it still remains my second favorite x-men movie to date, right after first class.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.1May 18, 2014GODZILLA,is the most epic monster movie i have ever seen in my life,it was the most exhilirating ,exciting and satisfying in it's genre truly an example to follow.Director Gareth Edwards has done only one small budget film before "monsters",he brought quality and true emotion in that movie, while still maintaining that great spectacle action.
The movie has great actors supported by Bryan Cranston(breaking bad, malcolm in the middle),Elizabeth Olsen(oldboy, avengers 2),Aaron Johnson(kick ass),they all deliver a magnificent performance ,especially from Bryan Cranston. The human element which most of the movie is hangs onto is fantastic ,you root for these guys ,you care for them, you want them to survive. The story itself is quite gripping and fascinating, constantly innovating, but also remaining a good throwback to the 1954 original, which itself held a very political message with it.
BUUUUUUUT,besides an ultimately intruiguing plot, the reason we all came to the theater is to hear and see the KING OF ALL MONSTERS,GODZILLA.The director utilizes a very smart approach instead of showing him to us all the time, like 1998 Roland Emmerich's film, this movie constantly teases us ,so that when it actually gets to the fight and glory it's all the more energetic, worthwile and MY GOD THE FINAL FIGHT is absolutely worth the price of admission, its just 15 to 16 minutes of pure BADASS,EPIC AND GLORIOUS,battle i have ever seen,in fact when it does get to the ultimate climax it made me clap, now ussualy i am pretty pumped and all anxious when i see action in theaters, but i never clap, this movie made me want to do that, and the whole theater clapped with me ,which made this moment truly amazing because it that much more effective when everyone gets their mind blown and ripped to pieces.
GODZILLA ,is without a doubt a cinematic masterpiece and achievement, its the best example of how to do a proper monster movie:heartful, suspenseful, exciting, teasing and one that pays off very big.
So what the hell are you waiting for go line up and hear the big guy roar.
btw, GODZILLA's the roar is one of the most unique and awesome out there, seriously its really loud.… Expand
Average User Score: 6.3Apr 27, 2014300 rise of an empire ,is masterfully crafted, brilliantly choreographed, interesting war film.It stays true to the original 300 ,it maintains the unique look and feel of the first movie but makes it even bigger, badder and bolder.and while it's short 1 and a half length keeps it from showing its true self and keeps you wishing for more this is still one of the most badass, visually arresting films i've ever seen.
As a big fan of the first movie,i was really excited to see this movie, especially after hearing this is a prequel-sequel companion of the first one,the events take place before ,during and after the 300,which itself is a unique spin ,that you don't see that often. The performances given by Sullivan Stapleton and Eva Green are terrific especially Eva Green's Artemisia ,she is a scary, crazy, seductive and not-apologetic,you don't want to mess with this bad girl.As for Sullivan's Themistocles he's great and inspirational speeches ,they may not be on par with Gerrard Butler's Leonidas, but he definetely fights a lot better than him.
The story itself is quite good and intriguining ,sure it's no masterpiece but hey its based off a graphic novel done by Frank Miller,so you can forgive it.The backstory of characters is thankfully given so you can have a lot more reasons to care for them and even Artemisia has a surprisingly heartbreaking past that gets you to understand her nature and why she truly wants revenge on Greece.
But it's the stylistic action and gore that gets people to watch 300,and from that standpoint the movie is glorious amounts of kick-ass fun.The director Noam Murro maintains Zack Snyder's perfect feel of all-out war ,he adds more slo-mo shots that perfectly captures the fighting skill of Themistocles, within the first 5 minutes you already get a fight scene ,the movie gets this well prepared rythm of telling the story and embracing the action. The blood effects might not be for everyone to like but i certainly got used to it and started to enjoy the hell out of it.The sea battles also dynamically change up to combat and make it a damn fun movie and not repetitious. There is an end fight which is both a dissapointment and satisfaction.it's satisfying because it feels extremely epic with Themistocles riding a horse jumping from ship-to-ship tearing Persians limb from limb and ending the fight with Artemisia, now the problem of it is that it ends very abruptly and makes you wish just a tad bit more but maybe in a sequel.
And it definetely will have a sequel with box office surpassing the budget and the box office of the first movie, this epic series is going to go on for a long time.300 rise of an empire is a MUST SEE for the fans of the original and fans of action movies,it's a wild ride from start to finish that does not slow down during talks ,but ends with an open note.
P.S. if you get a chance to see it in 3D absolutely see it like that,it's a real visual treat.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.3Apr 5, 2014simply a masterpiece ,the best marvel movie after ,avengers, with amazing performances from the enite cast ,superb action and a great story filled with political intrigue and espionage ,this movie will leave a big mark on evry other marvel movie to come because of it's events that occur a the end.
BUT CAPTAIN AMERICA THE WINTER SOLDIER,can stand on proudly on it's own ,just like the first iron man could, the dialogue is terrfic and i loved the interaction between Natasha Romanoff and Steve Rogers,Scarlett Johanson's character has a bigger role and much better portrayal than in any previous films, the winter soldier is extremely badass and brutal at times, like kicking a guy into a jet engine or throwing cap's own shield at him after he caught it ,which is impossible.Another aspect that stands out is how much heart it has ,how it focuses on trust and relationships .Samuel L. Jackson back again as Nick Fury provides a meaningful change to captain america that the world he once knew has changed and he has to learn where he fits in now.Anthony Mackie is funny as an actor and a character too he plays Sam Wilson in the movie who goes by the name of Falcon, for his ability to fly ,it's also worth mentioning that he has some of the best action scenes in the movie.
And boy are the action scenes freakin awesome,hand-to-hand combat is really good almost on the raid movies level,it has some very realistic and grounded ation ,as well as the usual CGI action ,but even that is more satisfying than ever before. It's strange how marvel manages to find the directors ,that never shot action before ,but when they do they make it seem it's not their first rodeo.Anthony Russo and Joe Russo have said that they have been inspired by the movies like HEAT and several other spy films of the 70s and they have done a fantastic job at it.
CAPTAIN AMERICA THE WINTER SOLDIER,has everything a action movie, superhero movie or even a simple movie fan wants.Terrific script ,smart and well-thought out dialogue ,great characters and personalities, authentic and BALLS-TO-THE-WALL action that you just can't help but scream about. This is how a superhero movie should be not some rushed out ones like IRON MAN 3 or THOR:THE DARK WORLD,every superhero movie should take example of this one right here.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.0Mar 16, 2014Need for speed has to me at least, everything heart-pounding action from my beloved games ,a great emotional tale ,excellent performances (especially from Michael Keaton and Aaron Paul),a great cast with a funny chemistry, excellent soundtrack ,great sound design ,you can feel like you are there ,you are in the front seat, the director Scott Waugh didn't lie when he pormised us about a trip so fast and incredible ,we wouldn't forget it,honestly the last race had me sweating, shaking in pure exhiliration something that i haven't experinced in a long time from movies.I also think that critics have forgotten how to have fun with these kind of movies, they are wayy too blinded with fast and furious. But need for speed is everything the first fast and furious should have been a crazy ,fun ride with underrated but great actors,Aaron Paul owns his role and he is definetely an incredible actor, who should be in more movies like this, the last race is not only intense but also very nostalgic to the games, where cops start using spike-strips ,roadblocks ,helicopters ,it surely reminds you of the games(mostly nfs rivals and nfs the run).
but yeah i loved this movie as a big fan of the nfs series and Aaron Paul and Michael Keaton, this is the best videogame-to-movie adaptation out there,if you want to see some great action ,stunts and actors this movie definetely deserves your attention.… Expand
Average User Score: 6.4Feb 23, 2014Robocop is a remake of Paul Verhoeven's 1987 classic robocop. The story once again focuses on Alex Murphy ,an honest cop and loving husband,as he is critically injured in the line of duty, the milion dollar company omnicorp, sees the opportunity to revive Alex Murphy ,and put him in a robotic suit, enabeling him to bring justice to the city more swiftly and accurately.
Honestly when i saw the trailers,i actually had high hopes for it,after all DREDD 3D ,proved that remakes can be better than the originals.Robocop is directed by Jose Padilha, who directed 2 briliant elite squad movies, which i love, and after watching them the second time my expectations rose even higher, and i am glad to say that the movie lived up to them.
The story this time had a lot more political edge to them showing viewers, the advanteges and disadvanteges of drone use in war-torn countries ,but also in native countries.Joel kinnaman plays Alex Murphy really well,he is no Peter Weller, though for a movie that's as different as this one it makes sense ,the story itself is both notebly simmilar ,but different enough to have something of it's own ,for example in the original movie after Alex gets revived as robocop he doesnt remember anything here he does, where as in the first he was trying to find out what it was like to be human ,here Alex Murphy finds out what its like to be a robot ,how to deal with the suit ,the family ,people around you and trying to find the place in the world.Although without any spoilers ,something happens towards the very end that brings it back to the original ,where Alex looses his humanity once again, which feels like you walked around a big circle and came to the same place.
As far as the action and throwbacks go ,there is plenty here. From tazer gun emerging robocop's leg,to the use of that classic revamped theme that gave me goosebumps in the beggining and brought and immediate smile to my face,Jose Padilha even cared as much as to make ED-209s say :YOU NOW HAVE 5 SECONDS TO COMPLY;or Alex Murphy say :THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.all those effective nods make you feel like they actually gave a **** about the original.
And at last the action, now the original robocop was known for hardcore rated-R action, that blew my mind as a kid, this one is PG-13,my god ,i don't give a **** because it's still FREAKING AWESOME,seriously why complain about gore and violence ,when you have a badass robocop kicking 3 ED-209s ass ,at the same time or neutralizing 54 robotic drones,in a field test, while being backed up by the kick-ass soundtrack from focus-hocus pocus, which was a badass scene itself, the only action scene i didn't like was the dark room section where he puts on thermal optics to kill human targets, anyone who has seen the movie nows what i am talking about.
As it stands robocop,is a different kind of animal from the original it provides a deep human story, like the original, respects it in some ways, shows satisfying action and ultimately shows that its not neccessary for a remake to be totally like the original for it to be good.
p.s that black suit is pretty cool too.… Expand
