Everything about the story is very niche, you will either go for the quirkiness and stack that up with it's somewhat few good points, or pile it up with the bad aspects of the game. But a few things are somewhat absolute, and you will to get past them will determine how well this game does for you. The controls are HORRIBLE, it doesn't matter if you play with the Dual Shock 3 or the Playstation Move, both suck in different ways but suck nonetheless (some mini-games seem impossible on the Move though). The game is very limited, with huge environments that are very boring, look all alike and are filled to death with invisible walls. The world is completely devoided of live or pretty much anything interesting to do, as a sandbox, this fails miserably. The graphics are very excessively bad, and having it run on a PS3 is kinda aggravating. I'm giving this game a 6 because I find the story overall amusing, but I find myself laughing more AT IT than with it.… Expand

The action is really engaging, the weapons are satisfying to shoot, it's a joy to simply move around the scenery making use of the crazy amour. The voice acting is quite good as well, it's a shame that the lines itself are pure cheese. The story is generic and somewhat substandard, but it's not intrusive to game-play: cut-scenes are pretty short and can be skipped. Overall, excellent game where its only drawback is that there is not more of it. But there comes the replay value, I guess. You will want to play it more.… Expand

The AIThe game is fantastic once you LEARN IT. The controls are very touchy but they work flawlessly if you take interest in learning them. The AI is very aggressive, which I love. The races are exciting and you feel like you EARNED every win you get. The "Helmet Camera" view is wonderful and makes for very engrossing driving. Sound is also amazing, they made everything very loud and visceral. What I also liked is the fact that the game "cares" if you are driving right or wrong. I played GT5 recently and I could cut any corner however I wanted, do whatever and the game wouldn't penalize me. Shift 2 throws bonus to players that master a track, the corners and drive skillfully, as well as has some pretty strict rules about trying to cheat your way throw. Drift is completely broken though. And the music is just god awful, better shut down entirely.Overall, it might not be an accurate simulation, but it is one hell of a FUN game to play once you get the hang of it… Expand

But if you are not a veteran NBA 2K player, you are BOUND to be left frustrated. The game has many modes, but doesn't really bother to explain any of them. The controls are obtuse and get in the way of the fun. The difficulty is completely absurd as well. I don't doubt there is a good game in here somewhere, it's just definitely not meant to be played by people like me.… Expand

Racing isMy main issue with GT5 is that for all the Simulation goodness it might do, it's not really a very interesting or exciting game. Racing is terrifyingly boring; the sounds are kinda muffled and the graphics leave to be desired, to be honest. The fact that you have to unlock damage and physical features by leveling up is beyond ridiculous...
If you have spent more then your house's worth on racing apparel you probably own it to yourself to play it, but if you are looking to an exciting racing game with realistic feel, to have fun, look elsewhere.
I don't own an Xbox 360, so I have never played Forza, and can't really say how it stands next to GT5. If I had to point at a replacement, Shift 2: Unleashed (Need for Speed's simulation -ish branch) is where it's at for me, as a gamer, not as a driving simulator enthusiast.… Expand
