The Onion (A.V. Club) Stephen Thompson
BASEketball's effort and energy pay off with surprisingly abundant laughs and a few admirable shocks.

Sick, twisted, and very funny, Parker and Stone have arrived. Again.

The pop-culture answer to a murder-suicide, the kind of flick that serves itself up as the object of its own satire.
Read Full Review >Variety Leonard Klady
The vulgar, obvious humor of Zucker brother David and "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone elicits easy, guilty laughs, yet the material has an underlying innocence that's just shy of good clean fun.

Sports-satire misfire. [31 July 1998, p. 2E]
New York Daily News David Kehr
Satire goes 'south' in gross mismatch of hot comic duo and "Airplane" director. [31 July 1998, p. 46]
The New York Times Stephen Holden
Essentially two movies stuck together like chewing gum on a subway platform. One is a dumber-than-dumb teen comedy crammed with farcical sight-gags and raunchy adolescent humor, the other a no-holds-barred satire of professional sports, and the greed, egotism and pomposity surrounding them.

I was bored well before the end, but found the first half hour pretty funny.

When I watch a comedy, I want it either to present endearing characters in fun situations or to make me laugh frequently. BASEketball accomplishes neither objective.

Not half-bad. It's about three- quarters bad, actually, but what's left offers some goof-off fun.
Read Full Review >Newsweek Jeff Giles
BASEketball feels stale and inert. Still, Parker and Stone have a nice, giddy rapport, and it's a kick to hear traces of Cartman and Kenny in their dude-speak.
Read Full Review >Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert
Starts promisingly as an attack on modern commercialized sports, and then turns into just one more wheezy assembly-line story about slacker dudes vs. rich old guys.
Read Full Review >Entertainment Weekly Bilge Ebiri
Exhibits none of the infectious offhand tastelessness of their hit show and all of the insistent overkill of a Mel Brooks joke gone horribly wrong.
Read Full Review >Washington Post Michael O'Sullivan
The film degenerates into sophomoric name calling and a brand of insult humor that would embarrass Don Rickles.

Some of the most heavy-handed, laughless, uninspired attempts at comedy since prime time. But I still dig South Park. Lets forget this ever happened.
Read Full Review >Los Angeles Times Jack Mathews
At one point, Michaels expresses his excitement at the outcome of a game. "You're excited?" Costas yells. "Feel these nipples!" If you're old enough to see this movie without a parent or guardian and all that sounds encouraging, this review has failed, and failed badly.

James S gave it a10:
A very much underrated film. Very saterical towards sports and the industry around it. Plus has similar style of humor found in South Park. What's not to love? Now excuse me while I play Nintendo.
Alex G gave it a9:
A superb film from start to finish, it packs a truely awe-inspiring explosion of zany humor with tiny gags to make you positively wet yourself,it's a shame this film isn't in the public eye more like Airplane or The Naked Gun, as the humor is just as good.
Bendik gave it a5:
This movie is so bad that it was funny.
Patrick gave it a10:
I don't understand how the original Scary Movie got pretty decent reviews yet this movie, which is far less childish and far less disgusting gets terrible reviews. This movie is not the send-up of pro sports it starts out to be, no. Zucker and Parker throw their satirical ability about like it was nothing, practically showing off, and yet they make the best underdog comedy of all time. People think Dodgeball is good? Perhaps it is. But if you don't like BASEketball, that's because you haven't arrived at that humor yet. It's a movie 10 years ahead of it's humor. If it came out this year it would be a hit.
Zach L. gave it a9:
This movie was great! Film critics just don't understand the whole "funny" thing, because even if a movie does seem stupid and childish, if it makes you laugh, it did its job. I don't think these guys were trying to do anything major, just make a funny movie, and I have to say they did just that.
Kurt P. gave it a1:
Everyone who gave this movie needs to go through puberty, or at least see super troopers.
Tom A. gave it a 10:
Hilarious
